Re: Performance parts cat

Post by Chris_C »

Forgot to add my feedback to this. Rang Dai 10ish days ago, chatted for ages about life, the universe, Volvos. Parts arrived withing 48hours. Parts look sexy (front engine mounts for 1.7's and a secret protopart) but not road tested yet. Engine mounts proper 2 piece metal studs, not a single stud too which I was worried about so conducted a few experiments ;) Proper engineering solution.

Thanks bud, really appreciate the quick turn around this time, it allowed me to push the rebuild along.

Once I've got my head around where to get the rest of the unobtainium from I'll give you some feedback on the bits.

I suspect it'll be...
nut, washer, bush, bar, bush, washer, then the shaft of the link, and the same again in reverse at the other end.

cheers

This one. The nobble on the bush goes into the hole (oo er missus) on each side, giving you the flats of the larger sides of the bush to put into the cups of the washers. Replace shaft of the link for the 2"ish spacer you have that goes over the long bolt

If you take a look at page one the photo shows how it fits together - the washers have changed but averything else is the same.

The wishbone is sandwiched by the bushes one end and the antiroll bar the other. I prefer to have the thread facing downwards but you can face it upward.

That's the way I thought it went but what then stops the washer on the bottom of the second bush falling down the bar?

I presume the centre section of the bar is thicker in diameter than the hole in the washer.

still having trouble with the drop links the bar is the same diameter from top to bottom
picture bellow shows the issue

(i know the washer is in the wrong place it falls down the drop link otherwise)

Well I don't know exactly how they're supposed to work, but there needs to be some sort of larger diameter section which fits between washers 2 and 3 (counting from top to bottom) to prevent them from sliding into one another. That could either be a wider shank on the bar, or a piece of tube.

cheers

Totally right james. I also know for a fact that that arb link is totally wrong!

This is mine:
Image

your kit should have come with two tubes, around 8mm inner diametre that can slide over the bolt. in the pic I took you cant see the bottom bushes, but imagine them being the same as the top.

The order should be (from bottom to top) washer - bush - lower bit of macphearson strut - bush - washer - spacer (tube that the bolt can slide through) - washer - bush - ARB - bush - washer - bolt through the whole thing, nut on the end. If you cant work it out, I'll get a better pic of mine. :D
