After Market Rev counter - What goes where?

Post by jon-ovlov » 06 Jun 2011 12:06 pm

I did a search on after-market rev counter installation, and found a few articles. I'm still a little confused though. I've found the rpm signal no problem (from the renault loom), and the engine ground. Where would I take the +ve from/to? On my instructions it says to ignition switch (I'm assuming ignition live). In the green books this is the yellow wire from the 30 amp fuse? (page 28/29 wiring diagrams). One thing to mention is I never had a rev counter dash, only a clock. I also have the F7R engine in.

I just don't want to go cutting wires I don't need to.

You can take power from any convenient ignition live under the dash. I spliced into my radio's power feed as it is more easily accessible. If you want to do things properly wire the light for it onto the dash backlight circuit, if your lazy and can live with it being lit up in the daytime just join it to your ignition feed.

Cheers Alex. Yeah, thats what I ended up doing. I've got power to it (lights up) but still no dial movement. So no signal read out from the ECU. AFAIK its the right exit point from it . . .

Hmm, do a test and splice it directly into the coil output.
