New radiator + fan switch issue...

Post by Sonia »

Hi all,

I've got myself a new radiator and thermal fan switch from ebay for my 1.4. I got to the point where I have the old one out and about to fit the new one, then tried to fit the new fan switch to the radiator without success (rookie mistake of taking it apart before trying them together I know...). It just won't go in more than a little way, does anyone know if it is supposed to be very difficult to get it on in order to create a good seal or is it just that the radiator thread is the wrong size? The new and old switches are the same size, so the problem doesn't lie there. I don't want to force it because I can't get the switch to stay straight and I'm worried about ruining the thread completely...

Any thoughts?

So the new rad is the problem. If it fits fine the old one id suspect it isnt meant to be forced. Try the old switch in the new rad?

Sounds like its the new rad to me. I've not changed the switch before, im just trying to be logical. Try cleaning the threads? wd-40? to free it going in

That was the conclusion I'd come to as well... Very irritating! I've tried wd-40, still no movement though. It is like they have fitted the wrong sized thread in the radiator, surely they wouldn't have made that mistake though...?
