1.4 to F7R conversion questions

Post by jon-ovlov »

Several questions I wanted to ask, which I'll most likely find the answer to when I do it, however didn't want to go into the deep end blind!

So here goes

1. My Volvo is a MK2 GL, I remember seeing in the haynes manual somewhere that the subframe is slightly different between the MK2 and 3 versions, is this true? I'm also unsure as to whether the rear mounts are the same or different between these models too.

2. Depending on the case above, will the 1.7 mounts bolt straight into my subframe, and to the F7R? (i.e. Dai's polybush mountings)

3. Will I need the bolts from a 1.7 car for the bellhousing etc, or can I use the 1.4 ones?

4. 1.7 sump gasket, cant find anything anywhere, any suggestions? Also, with the sump, I'm assuming the F7R sump bolts will fit with the 1.7 sump?

Erm, thats all I can think of at the mo, sure theres something else mind

Sorry for the annoying questions

It's true, you need a mk3 front-engine-support-bar thingy and the sway bar

thus, no, these are mk3

3. Will I need the bolts from a 1.7 car for the bellhousing etc, or can I use the 1.4 ones?
don't know, shouldn't be the biggest problem, just get the ones which fit :)

4. 1.7 sump gasket, cant find anything anywhere, any suggestions? Also, with the sump, I'm assuming the F7R sump bolts will fit with the 1.7 sump?
the offer/demand section, same as above for the bolts, try and see
Hope it helps a bit

The Renault sump on my F7P used a sealant gasket so I used sealant when fitting the Volvo sump to it. Most modern cars use sealant there now instead of a proper gasket. Fairly certain I checked in Payen and BGA's gasket catalogues when I worked at a factors and they listed nothing for a 1.7 340.

Sump bolts were the same on mine. Bellhousing bolts were a mix of Renault and 1.4 340 iirc.

BTW Subaru's OE sealant is rated as being pretty good. They use it where my brother works and I hear it'll hold a sump on with no bolts in it!!!! The Ford stuff ain't too bad either that's what I used seeing as I work at a Ford dealer now! Still drive VW's though!(and hopefully my Volvo again soon!)

Sorry to drag this one back up again but could you tell me which bolts you used in the end?
