Anyone relocated the steering column?

Post by L14MNP »

I welded my seat rails in today, and as suspected, the steering colum isn't central and I want it to be. Has anyone moved it?

It doesn't look too bad to move to the right and down a little, but I wonder if it will still mate with the rack? This is something that is going to have to wait until the steering rack is on I guess.

Also, what's the dash like (mk2/3) where the column comes through? I can't remember, and mine is buried in the loft atm.

Any pics/experience/advice would be great. Cheers.

Cheers Alex. 340pw

It looks like modifying the dash (if need be) won't be an issue then. Just hoping the column and rack have enough 'slack' in them to allow a little movement now.
I think the column hole in the bulkhead may need enlarging too.

We shall see.

hi mate its really easy to do bolted me seat to the floor as im quiet tall and the wheel was like being in a van haha lowering the column is easy moving is basically taking one bit from one side and adding it to the other only prob is it will no longer have the lower cover because the cut hole does no longer line up and hits the colomn
