Speedy88's Volvo 740 Turbo

Hubba hubba. The paint is fubar, someone has keyed the bonnet, the lights are broken, it has no radio and weird warning lights keep on flashing at me. It's a 2.3 Turbo (230FT) estate and looking at the logs it is from my old home town! I'm pretty sure Bournemouth has all the world's volvos.

And despite my immediate love for it, I've yet to take any pictures! Here's a teaser that a friend took:



My plans, as it's a bit worn, is to make it an anti-social lowered drift wagon daily. I've always wanted to give drifting a go and it'd be fun to have a loud lowered Volvo to scrape work's speed bumps. On the books it has about 170bhp so no engine mods should be needed quite yet. I plan to get a locker and modify it so it is engaged all the time, or to get one of those evil welded diffs.

I can't believe how big this thing is, the entire contents of my 340's boot and back seat barely fill the 740 boot floor. I chucked some rubbish bags in there yesterday and it just seemed a shame I didn't have 10 times as many

740 estates are what my dad always had - great cars. He managed to drop the back end purely off carrying stuff about for a year. The amount you can carry is unbeleivable.

I've seen this thing in the flesh, and it's a beast! HUUUUGE! Much camping can be done without a tent. Winner.

I've got a shot of speedy under the car at A52, when I get home I'll put it up.

Yep, not sure what boost a 740 turbo runs as standard though, may be 10psi?? (940 HPT's run 7.5psi) I'm guessing it has the Mitsubishi 13c turbo or I wonder if because it's an early B230FT perhaps it has a Garrett still??? If it's the same as a 940 B230FT you should get a noticeable gain in performance Just make sure it's a a ball and spring MBC rather than a bleed valve style, and keep the vacuum hoses between the actuator and the MBC short to avoid boost spiking.

Its a Mitsubishi one, it came with the facelift. It offers more low-end boost but I'll be sure to fit a MBC. Even 2psi is worth it
