The bits that hold the top bearing and the spring on the front cups.
I've said I'll make a display for the VOC stand on how to recondition these, so I need a few for a step by step board. In the long run I'm hoping to be able to do a turn around on them, my bit for the scene if you will. Anyone got any knackered through to almost good laying round?
I'm thinking the people who are going for front suspension upgrades might have something depending on what they are going for!

Re: Strut top cups
Sorry for going off at a tangent here, but if you refurb them, would you know where i can get hold of a new pair of bearings that go on the top cup under the top mount? I've got some coilovers to put together but need the bearings to take the load, but i want some new ones - any ideas? Thomas...........

If I were coilovering, I'd go for a thrust bearing that's better made than the OEM tbh. The orig is fine, but it's not an off the shelf standard part. If you arn't using OEM top cups, why limit yourself?

Re: Strut top cups
This is true, just on my coilovers i've seen how the top mount bearing's been machine into the top cup, so i was simply going to replicate. I suppose if i took the top cup to a bearing suppliers and get them to supply me with one. I'll give it a shotChris_C wrote:If I were coilovering, I'd go for a thrust bearing that's better made than the OEM tbh. The orig is fine, but it's not an off the shelf standard part. Re: Strut top cups
If you are maching the top cup, I'd go through the SKF catalogue for all their thrust bearings and find a standard one that would do the job. You need to do the maths on the thrust loading obviously, but that's a couple of evenings with some paper. It means that as and when you ever need to change them, you know they will be available.
Or... it could be I'm too keen to use standard parts for everything as I know I'll be keeping my cars for at least another bearing swap

Re: Strut top cups
I might just take the top cup, and an original bearing down to the local bearing shop and see what they got? That way i can see it there in front of my rather than guessing from pics eh? Thomas...............
