We could always agree that Mk1/Mk2/Mk3 refers to body appearance and nothing else.

I can see Richs' point, speaking as one who was "there at the beginning, middle and end" there never was of course
a "Mk1 / 2 / 3 " etc. (at least so far as "us at the factory"). but I must admit it is a simple way of classing them even if
it was generated by, and specific to V3M.

It may be a little offensive to us "total anoraks" but every body understands the distinctions (but lets not expand it further,
no need to go to Mk11 pre and post quarterlight and so on). I think Rupert's right - use 1/2/3 to describe the look but
remember it's our own "internal" taxonomy.

So for the noobs MK1/2/3 is good enough? :D Any ides on anything else that could be posted? Im mostly interested in sizes, i.e bolt sizes, the wheel bore size etc? Which needs to be added, apart from that is it good enough to be put up as an FAQ/Info thread yet? or does it still need 'finishing' as such? Thomas...................

Hi Thomas.
Tom over in Germany has loads of pictures of different wheels and radios.
You could ask him for a few pics. He also has an extremly rare 2lt 340 DLS.
Cheers Mark.

It's good enough for an opener for noobs, (but they might get disappointed later when they find out it's not real - like that mystical bloke who delivers prezzies)

however, it might be worth sticking in a disclaimer of "continuous development" and that many things generally were changed every model year that ran from September before to the August during.

The problem I have with the expression "Mk" whatever, is that the implication is that the manufacturer brought out a new and improved model after a number of years of the same old (un-revised) tat, and in effect saved up all the improvement/changes for this leap forward. However, with numerous changes every model year, you move to the US position of describing things by the model year.

If you're using it as a body-shape indicator, then it might be worth avoiding the "Mk" expression and use something else, like "Phase 1/2/3" or "Generation 1/2/3", as I think they convey more of a fixed body-shape-and-development within the respective generation.

That wasn't that long ago. When I were a nipper, they were just called 343 or 345s.

There's a pic over in the brochures section:

Some Mk1 wheels missing there though.

Ooops, now I've gone and said Mk1 :-)

Amongst us anoraks, calling them "Mk-whatever" has always been a bit controversial. But I'm quite happy to use the "V3M-norm", which is basically based on the exterior changes for the 82 and 86 model years ...

Cheers

I thought the 2nd gen steelies came in with the change of front brakes for MY80?

Certainly the 1st gen steelies won't fit on a later car because of the dishing and calliper clearance.

Hi all, i've added the extra pictures of the wheels, and another to the lowering block section. Need some more ideas, as i've run out of sections to add. Is there anymore of those 'special parts' that you know of that i could add? What about modifications? Thomas................
