Hi guys, my name's mike, i just thouht i'd say hello.
I've just got my first 340 as it came up for the right price. It's got a welded diff, stripped out and it looks like it has a heavily tuned 1.4 engine, unfortunatley i forgot to take any engine bay shots.
My plans are to generaly tidy it up a bit and enjoy driving it. Eventually i plan to fit a cage and do a few track days
Its very fun to drive, i dont think ive ever driven a car as quick
The engine bay really needs tidying up because as you can see its a mess
When I bought it i was told its a renault R5 turbo lump, problem is it looks factory fitted, does anyone have any thoughts?
Car looks good mate. TURBO!!! can tell you that that is not factory fit. The engine it's self might be, they're practically the same as a R5 turbo lump I think.
So could either be the standard 1.4 with a turbo added (possibly off R5T) or a R5T engine swapped in. As it's pretty much the same engine, it would look quite factory fit. Think it's mainly the manifold that causes problems when they put R5T engines in

car looks good but the engine bay looks very messy like you said i would find out what renix unit it is running it needs to be a r5 turbo jobby as they retard the ignition on boost or the engine wont be very happy at all as some have fount out and is it running a air filter as that picture you put up wasnt fitted also is it a renult 5 engine or not
its a R5T lump allright, it has the characteristic Renault valve cover, fuel pump blanking plate, shorter dipstick etc. it´s definatly the R5T lump, combined with Volvo 340 waterpump-alternator etc. i also see the knock sensor on the cylinderhead so it´s likely a PH2 engine allthough it was popular to mount this on PH1 cars too..
intake manifold is stock, exhaust manifold isn't; probably from another R5 without turbo, i'm interested to see how the turbo is bolted on there
i would reccommend plumbing watercoolanthoses to that turbo as it´s ment to be water/oil cooled, this way it won't last very long.
