Pity you didn't do photo stages of the window corners, that looks perfect.
Going to have to get my dash out properly and spray up an undercoat.
I do worry about over grinding and thinning out too, you seem to be like me, obsessive about cosmetic perfection. Have you been watching American Hotrod? Nice complete metal, no pitting, no rusty seams mmmmm.

Cheers lads!
Ride On, I don't watch American Hotrod much tbh mate, but I just like what I have to be the best it can. There's something very appealing to me about owning a relatively old car that is close to minted. Dunno what it is lol.
Rust.
This afternoons progress was door related, I put the feelers out on RR forum to see if anyone with considerably more skyllz than I fancied repairing my doors for me, as given how hard they were to get, I really didn't want to ruin them. After a PM to tonybmw, I was put in touch with Pete (Nomad) and I am very impressed with what he has acheived so far. He sells himself short imo!
The first door has turned out luckily to be in the worst condition. Here's some before pics after I stripped the seals and frames out etc, and the seam sealer from the bottom.
Nice eh!
After I cut most (as much as I dare, because of the step in the skin) of the rot out.
Bottoms:
After I attacked them with the wire brush on the grinder. A nervous experience lol.
Good, but not great. I have to remind myself they are 30 years old!
Enter Nomad:
Chop chop
This is the diseased metal that was behind the fold of the door skin. Be gone! Pete made a patch with a 90* bend that tucks up behind the door skin as per the original section. A great idea imo.
I don't seem to have any pics of the patch, or any of it tacked in. It is puddle welded to the bit of angle inside the door bottom, and onto the rear edge of the door skin, as per standard. Pete is going to finish it when he returns to sort the other door.
I can't thank him enough, and will happily vouch for his work for anyone needing similar work done. I will add this on Retro Rides too.
Here's the other door. I just stripped this one down this afternoon, and am very happy with it's condition. I still need to remove the seam sealer from the bottom, but top and bottom both look better than the passenger side so far.
Until tomorrow... (if I cba. I'm on nightshift this week, and really need more than 3/4 hours sleep lol)

Yeah, they like to go there! My original doors which Hell Driver now has had too, although I never removed the trims on those to see how bad it was.
Eagle eyes! Got some Hakosuka fender mirrors for the wings yeah mate. Hopefully it will look good. it was my soul reason for changing the door style lol.

Re: Turbo 360: Door repairs
Your doors are still awaiting dismantling, as is the rest of the Mk1 To be honest they look better than those but I expect I'll find some more rust beneath the trims. As far as I remember the bottoms are A1. If I carry out the repairs as I intend to, it will be only the bottom halves I use anyway (unless I find a mint pair of quarter light doors!). I'm watching this thread closely as I'll be somewhere near that point (doors) this summer. I will get on with it soon...honest!

Re: Turbo 360: Door repairs
Ben, We have no 'iconic' number 9 shirt, nor a 'special relationship' with the FA Cup, but I'll take this win. Bring on the Wenger boys!
Andy, iirc on my old doors, there's a bit under one of the mirrors which was crispy that I rubbed back and touched up, and a few scabs showing through in the same area along the top, so with the seals removed I reckon they may well be in a similar state. Overall they are definitley very good though, the bottoms as you say are almost perfect.
I knew when we bought the 343 that these doors were worse than my current ones, but repairable. The things we do for 'style' eh!
Get the layers on man and get crackin on that car!

Re: Turbo 360: Door repairs
I'm struggling to keep warm in the sodding house at the moment,
without trying to heat/keep warm in the garage
Are you heating the garage? It was -4 C here this morning at 9.30am.
I'm waiting for it to warm up before I start, plastic trim gets a bit fragile at these temperatures...thats my excuse anyway
