1.7 5 door and 1.4 3 door combatibiltys..?

Post by Callum » 20 Mar 2012 10:37 pm

Hi all, i have a 1.4 A reg 3 door 340 and picked up tonight a 1.7 J reg 5 door 340 to use for parts. Main bits i wanted was the diff/gearbox and propshaft and possibly the rear suspension. Anyway, it also has a rev counter, front electric windows and electric mirrors. All of which i would like to ask if they'll fit mine? I know wiring is unlikely to exsist in my one but other than that is there any problems im coming into? Presumably this has been asked before but i cant find any old threads that are any use.

Many thanks

Is that the blue J plate up from my parents house? I'm after some doors in my 1.7's colour ;)

The electric windows won't transfer, the mechanism is different in 3drs. Rev counter and mirrors will be fine, as will box and prop. Diff will be long for a 1.4 though I'd have thought.

Might be aha :) Got the allergro too but its really hanging haha.

Ah thats a bummer will probably leave as is then apart from the clocks. Do you know where the rev gauge connects up to? I thort that too but as far as im concerned itll drive and will save me getting annoyed with a locked diff lol..

Ill check there condition but im sure we could agree something if you want them mate. Cars got to go pretty soon but i can take them off before it goes for you. Shame the rear jacking point are shot because i was hoping to cut a section out for mine.

Lame, if it is the one up the road it's the wrong colour :( That allegro has been there... a while, certainly way before we moved there. I've never had a close look at that car considering it's spent 10 years just living a few doors away

I'll drop you a pm, there are a few bits I wouldn't mind looking to see the condition they are in.

Rev counter, on an A plate you should have a Renix unit in your 1.4? If so, it goes to one of the terminals on that if the wire isn't already in the dash. One thing I have just realised though... A plate will be smiths gauges, J plate is VDO :(

You can use the rev counter from the 1700 in yours, i've got a b reg 84' and i've put in a set of VDO rev counter clocks. All you need to do is change the dials, the speedo cable and run a wire from the renix to one of the wire in the multi plug that connects in the back of the clocks :) There's a thread on here explaining how to do it, easy peasy can be done in an afternoon :) Thomas.................
