Hi,

Yes, my friend has one of BRM in his garage after cam belt snapped.
He is fixing it now so will be OK.
He also has about 7 other cars!

Cheers

After speaking with Alan about width of mk1 Midas wheel arches, I decided to reduce width of rear subframe by 100mm.
I have measure to make sure where centre line is and gave 2" masking tape 2 widths.

Then cut it up and welded it up.

After tidying up, I was going to do more but run out of welding gas. So I have to get hold of carbon Dioxide bottle again!

I think I will get it sand blasted, then either etch prime or Zinc primed. So that I can use it as it is or make a jig from it!

Nice work there mate!

That lad didn't know what he wanted for torque tube when i asked him. Has gear linkages attached. I'm going up at some point to get an anti-roll bar from him so will find out for you.

Thanks Matt.
I think my bell housing will be ready soon, so I can start to cut it up.
It will be good job to have a spare torque tube, just in case I balls it up!

Hey Adam,

Aye, the gearbox I bought off you will be used for this project and I'm getting LSD made abroad.
I will be cutting up the torque tube to shorten it and using it with Mazda MX-5 back suspensions.
It should work but I got too many projects going at the moment. How is yours coming along?

Hi mate, got you a working set of gear linkeges complete with reverse gear stop bracket and reverse light switch and gear knob. I also now have the spare torque tube of durham lol but am going to swap them round soon. Just let me know if/when you need it. I can bring you the linkages pretty much any time

Hey Matt,

Thanks for that!
My MIG welder is down so I can't do any welding as yet. Do you know the torque tube has good working order bearing or not?
I think I will have spare time tomorrow so I shall cut up mine and see if I can mod it easily.
I have now a working order rear suspension setup with rear disc brakes from MX-5.

Did you get bottom arms?
If you do, bring it over.

as far as i can tell its ok, the prop turns very easily inside the tube
looks in better condition than mine!

well, i have the spare crossmember and 1 bottom arm - but the crossmember is rusted through in places so i think i'll wait till i find another.
did start thinking a whole new one could be made from scratch lol

Looking good, As long as it works, that's all that matters. I thought there was a much bigger difference in size where the two pieces meet

Hi,

I'm getting my subframe sand blasted, bell housing is now welded and picked up and on it's way.
So I should have everything I need by tomorrow!
With bell housing, I can start to measure and cut my torque tube to length and lay out what it will look like.
All I need now is for me to get hold of the LSD, I'm getting it made.

Watch this space  .

Hi,

I have been busy with my work but meanwhile, my mate has been busy on behalf.
He has finished welding bell housing of Swift Gti to a Volvo 360 torque tube adaptor.

I can start to measure few other bits with this item now!

Hi,

I trial fitted my modified bell housing to my torque tube to see what length I need to cut.

Image

New bell housing is 186mm in length and I need to have my shaft which is 8mm short of the engine mounting face.
I need to cut 300mm to shorten it as well as whatever length I need to adjust.
So, it will be 300 +7mm in total to adapt my Volvo 360 gearbox to my Swift Gti G213B engine.

This is the other side(gearbox end).

Image

This is my connecting end of the gearbox.

Image

Next, I have to take out a prop shaft out of the torque tube. Cut torque tube to the length and weld back together.
I have to get new splines(Swift Gti) cut into a shortened prop shaft.

Cheers
