as above rely has anybody go the lenght of it the bit i need measuring is the body of the damper

You want the length of the strut tube? I could measure that if i was at home :?

sorry i was in a rush earlier the measurement is the damper cartridge body length not the overall length nor the piston rod length just the body
the yellow bit in the picture if that makes sense

ive measure the strut internally and got 340mm length and 49mm inside diameter
im going to nip to my local auto factors tomorrow and see if they will let me look through there book to see it throws up something that is smaller alot smaller

nar gave up in end but i was looking at corsa and stuff
but tbh my last thought was just about bunging the damper shaft in the lathe and turning it down
