I'd call it a front suspension crossmember, Volvo describe it as "Front axle member". Horse for courses.

Brutal damage btw.

i dont really know what happened lol, i span and kept me foot in it so i ended up faceing the rite way again, stopped set a few cars past, came to the next corner and it just wanted to steer towards the wall and there was some strange noises coming from the front, and they wasnt little ones because as i was driveing threw the pits/car park every ones heads turned lol, suppose its my own fault for being a twat and keeping my foot in it,

mac i need one of those lol, yea i havent brought my self to go out and have a look how bad it is,

thomas the chassis looked ok at the time but will find out when i strip it all down :|

if anyone has that part what ever its called lol let me know

cheers

That's weird dude, maybe it just got too rusty and failed. I always keep my foot planted. The only time I didn't I hit a kerb

yea i think it was a combo of abit of rust and some hard driveing, not to worry it will be fixed asap and gives me an excuse to poly bush the front end,

had a look at the damage today and took the subframe off

Hmm, I'm thinking you have damaged it previously on something hard. Spinning should not bother it much unless its really rotted.

Having said that I've always thought those things are too weak, just jacking it up on there (as you do) bends the thing, and often permanently. Strenthening is recommended for harsh use.

Someone needs to make a jig, so we can fab new ones. Also really need the original drawings.

i havent damaged it before that im aware of but could have been done by a previous owner, or like said could just be a combo of years or driveing and rust, suppose something will give eventually,

would be good if someone could start makeing parts for the 300's as there really starting to get hard to find,

going to make sure that when i find one that it will be stronger than it was, even if its just welding up the seams

I've thought this too, dunno if I have the skills to do it though :(
Atchi, Miniswift on here, Is going to be giving me adjustable camber on my x-member and he might have some ideas on re-manufacture
Wishbones and Radus arms might be worth making Jigs for too

it's better to bend a subframe/wishbone then a chassis rail, and if you redesign the subframe etc to uber strengthe the chassis rails are the next weak point..

Agreed, but need to retain the original strength after corrosion somehow, difficult to do accurately though. I still think some modification in the right area would help to stop jacking changing the geometry, but so as not to ruin the chassis in a crash.

yea true, not going to go to ott but like said there not that strong to start with and with rot there gonna be pretty weak, i mean i only span and mine whent so i think abit of extra strength would help

cheers

not touched the car for a while now since it broke, gonna get it sorted now though as there's a few drift days comeing up that i want to go to, i picked up a crossmember off someone on here the other wee, started makeing it stronger the otherday, welded the front seams up and added 4 supports around were it whent last time so hopefully shouldnt have thaat problem again, ther welding is very shitty looking mainly due to my very shakey hands but its strong and been well tested so it isnt a problem

only pics i have, will get it fitted to the car soon, need to find someone to trailer the car to events for me now incase it ever brakes again so i dont have to wait for brake down
