Re: Daily 300's?
is it a proper gsi? The most fun I've had in fwd so a gsi with diblas inlet, tbh though didnt seem that much faster than the 360 thoughvolvosneverdie wrote:.Chris_C wrote:

Insurance for a year is 100€ for my 343, I have full discounts from no claims stuff.

Chris fails to mention that his monster gsi engine is attached to an automatic gearbox :p

Re: Daily 300's?
Yup, it's not a GSi, but has the X14XE the early ones had.
The auto box is better than most I've driven. That is it's still bloody horrific, but we have come to a mutual understanding.
My reason for having a corsa is it's something I find absolutely no interest to fiddle with. I have several 300 projects in the back of my mind (340 with B18FT to finish, 360GLT on LH, 360GLS with lightened flywheel on twin Stroms) which means if I buy another 300, to daily, I'd start mucking about with it. I'd have to do the same suspension work to them Fake has had. They'd have to have the upgraded brakes she has etc etc. It'd be at least £1200 of parts on top of the car, no matter if I buy a 1.4, 1.7 or 2.0. All stock 300's (including the GLT here) are slower than the 1.4 corsa too, it's just a well thought out modern engine.
So, the corsa stays as whilst it's dull enough I don't want to think of projects for it (it's near the total potential it'll ever have) it's got enough redeeming features I haven't set light to it yet.
It's a bit like a mini, if you don't tell it it's not rwd, and you drive it as though it *is* rwd, people get very confused!

Re: Daily 300's?
Yours is a 1.4 right? Seriously, faster than every 300? Book specs...
1.4i Breeze 5d Auto
12.6 secs
107 mph
88 bhp
Even the manual only does it on 10.2 seconds, which I guess would make it roughly on par/marginally quicker than a Mk3 GLT. Although totally irrelevant as I know exactly what you mean, should keep the T4 really as it gives me no motivation to do anything to it cos it does everything well enough as it is. Although what suspension/brakes are you putting on that cost £1200!?

Re: Daily 300's?
Quick bit of maths, taking the best numbers that I could find from Volvo to be Volvo biased...
Auto Corset, X14XE 90/930kg = 0.097bhp/kg
360GLT B200e pre 87 116/1110 = 0.104
360GLT B200e post 87 112/1110 = 0.101
340 B172k for completeness 83/1001 = 0.083
Powers from the specs green book, weights from the press release on the VOC site (which gives lower power figures... go figure) http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/press/pdf/3 ... elease.pdf
I'd put a small bet on the open looped LE cars loosing more than the FI system in the Corsa over time, hence where I reckon it's likely quicker comes from. I know of *very* few correctly running LE jet cars. LH on the other hand...
But, as you say, it's the not fiddling aspect that makes a second car worth having. All of us could be interested with more projects, but then we'd all have to call ourselves Foggy and do none of them!

Re: Daily 300's?
Problem with your maths it doesn't take into account auto box sapping. Also, you're right LH cars never run well but with all of mine they've always performed as they should when totally flat out, the degradation with the injection system usually effects cold starts and general drivability, which perhaps I'd hope to avoid with a B200K (once the carb is in fully working order!).

When I took my black car to Santa Pod I ran a 18.3 @ 74mph terminal, and that was a fairly rough example! But damn, that's slow for a 2.0
Talking of carbs - does anyone have the details which carb the B200K uses and whether spare parts are possible. As far as I can tell it's a Solex Cisac Z34?

I'm happy to be corrected, I know little about them, was just what I was told by a Vaux dealer! Note the above about it holding little interest

Re: Daily 300's?
Cisac Z11, with injection there is at least simple troubleshooting and easy to service it to top working condition, but with carb, you really have to work it, shaft can be leaking, you need new bushings for shaft, maybe new shaft too, carb base is probably not straight, haven't ever seen on that is and you get to wet sand it straight again, which when makes it more prone to get warped again as it gets weaker, material just is not very strong, so it kind of bends. You can fight with floats and float levels too, also any air leak will have massive effect, unlike injection where you need huge leak to even notice it.SteveP wrote:Problem with your maths it doesn't take into account auto box sapping. Then there are a lot of moving parts that tend to stick, need range adjustments etc.
For starting with bad battery it is pain too, especially when being not used for long as it does pump fuel only with starting engine, but with injection just turn power on and wait a moment, pump is priming the system.
It is easier to work with injection system as you just swap injetors or air metering or some temp sensors, simple jobs really, of course not very cheap, but with carb more hand craft skill is required and precision, a lot of precision.
I have never got carb to run properly, I got it better, but never properly running. However when I had megasquirt, I did notice that lot of symptoms were ignition related, sluggish response, poor running at low throttle situations, it had lot to do with ignition as when I swapped the ignition it was running lot better and lot stronger at low throttle situations especially.
2nd Cisac I had was such that it did work bit better, but it was leaking a lot, less leak I had worse carb seemed to work
Anyway I took lot of photos when I took it to pieces first time:
http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/album/360/solex%20cisac/
http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/album/360/cisac2/
Also it might be better working now, but I haven't had chance to drive it after I replaced top part of carb from other carb and adjusted it to specs.
I have also bought service kit for carb, it is UK made product so I would imagine it should be found from there:
http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/album/360/cisac2/service_kit/
There was also one really nice carb parts shop in UK, I have posted link earlier, but can't remember it now, maybe I can find it again, but almost any part was available from there.
At low throttle, it starts to feel like flooring throttle then letting it go, in very fast pace, that is issue I never really got around when driving the car, but I don't know if it is any better now.
I did manage to broke vacuum nozzle from ignition though, but maybe I go with MS ignition only, that of course makes it non original, but with this rate I don't get it on road before environmentalists ban all driving.
Re: Daily 300's?
there was the corsa sport which was a 1400, my mate was gonna put the engine in his 1.2 8v but the wiring got the better of him
I'm glad mine has no oil pump, timing chain on way out and headgasket leaking in and out of everywhere - makes me want the volvo back out quickly
pretty much my reason for having a corsa, although maybe not absolutely no interest in fiddling with it lolChris_C wrote:My reason for having a corsa is it's something I find absolutely no interest to fiddle with.
