Hi all, a long term one here. I'm basically looking for a 300 (preferably a 360) as a breaker. So if you could keep your eyes and ears peeled, I'm looking for one that might be looking a bit sorry for itself. Bad body and panels is fine, I'm not interested in storing those really but I'd like to stock up on 300 spares. I'm thinking that I'll gut it in my yard, flip it over and gut the underside.
I'm hoping from this I can offer cheap 300 spares to the community and at the same time have all the spares I'd ever want. Can't see me ever getting bored of 300s
So if you hear of any (I'll be looking on ebay and gumtree) please let me know.
Looking for a breaker
Re: Looking for a breaker
Are you looking to strip a few with fatal rust? If you strip everything off any cars that would otherwise go to the crusher then that would be helpful for everyone

Re: Looking for a breaker
That's pretty much what i do over here in nz. you get a nice little community of 300 owners too. i not only sell parts but help with problems hey may be having as i can run an engine through in my head and also have a grasp of wiring and electronics. mostly from parting cars. a few guys over there should do group buy of terminally ill cars.

Exactly this. That's really good Logan, you're probably keeping the only 300s in NZ aliveEvoman wrote:Are you looking to strip a few with fatal rust? If you strip everything off any cars that would otherwise go to the crusher then that would be helpful for everyone

Re: Looking for a breaker
My 2 pence worth (which you probably know already
)
It's a good idea to narrow down which model year / engine to look out for. Will it always be 360s, and late models you're interested in? If you end up owning a 3dr Mk1 vario, than a broken 5dr MkIII 360 will be about as useful for that as a spare Reliant Robin in the garage.
It's also a good idea to have some kind of "catalogue system" for the removed bits - a few years on down the line you won't have a clue in which box you put that part x and where you put that box even. I try and group bits together, steering bits, interior bits, instruments etc, and I also try and keep NOS bits and grimy used bits seperate. Then I go all weird and put those bits in an Excel table
Very geeky, but it helps my crusty mind to remember years later where I put my stuff.
Space is an issue too. I've got at least one garage too many, blocked full with parts. The garage money for a year would mean a lot of spare cash to buy the things I need from someone else, sometimes I wonder whether it all makes sense ...
Cheers
Tom

Re: Looking for a breaker
Thanks, I've considered all this. I didn't specify as a vario still has parts on I might be interested in. If the price was right and it was going to the scrappy anyway...
As for storage, I have a unit anyway. Any parts can just be stacked at the back. Makes no difference to how much I pay
