Hi all
Hi all I'm going to be picking up a 87 340 1.4 up this weekend and found my way to this forum..Some of you will know me from the other Volvo forums and my love for all things T5 but I fancied something RWD.I was looking at an e36 328i but for some strange reason I have ended up with the 340!Anyway I'm looking forward to something different and a start of another project..
Re: Hi all
Great to see you've joined this one. you may have seen some of my posts from another forum too

Re: Hi all
Given it's an auto you are getting Tony (and without wanting to teach you to suck eggs, I've no idea on your previous experience) don't be alarmed when you don't hear it change gears
There are a few nuances with that box and *very* few people understand them fully. There are a couple of really good manuals/documents on here about it however, first one worth a read is http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =39&t=3803
Good luck with it, I was tempted, I've been on a Vario test driving mission of recent to find a nice one but that was just a bit to north.

Re: Hi all
I fail to see how converting a car to manual and F7R is "another one bites the dust"?

Re: Hi all
TBH Mac I know where you are coming from but trying to find a clean example was harder then I thought SO my only other option is to by this auto and convert it to manual..Sorry I know its painful but that's the way it goes..

It's yours to do as you see fit Tony. I was just marking the passing of a CVT.

Re: Hi all
There are pleanty of clean car out there without needing to convert a vario. for expample ready to roll more or less http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-340-wil ... 43b782c454 (this car is known to the forum)
Not wanting to put you off- If you are building from ground up the I'm sure you will be buying bits from me - just sugesting maybe start with a car in need of a bit less alteration for what you want.

Re: Hi all
Sure, I got that, I know you weren't being anti-modification or anything. It's just that this will surely offer up the gearbox for spares whilst keeping the car on the road? The amount of varios available in comparison with the amount of people who want to drive said varios is a very uneven ratio. I'd say on the contrary, this is probably stopping one from reaching a scrappy and well and truly biting the dust!macplaxton wrote:It's another Vario biting the dust
Re: Hi all
If distance and shipping weren't an issue I'd be tempted by the box and have an auto 360. purely because i don't think we got them over here.

Re: Hi all
Tony, there are a few bits worth offering to the community when you do it, clutches for the auto are rare as anything!
Good luck with the conversion, I'm interested to see how you get on. As yet, I'm still to see a "factory" standard conversion (from the running and reliability side, rather than the pretty side).

Re: Hi all
It would not be a simple conversion for a 360 and live of the belts would be fairly low with the power of the 360 engine. A vario 360 would be cool thoughLogan360 wrote:If distance and shipping weren't an issue I'd be tempted by the box and have an auto 360. purely because i don't think we got them over here.
