different radiator?
different radiator?
Will any other radiator fit a 360? Or does anyone in aus have a very cheap spare?

Re: different radiator?
Whatever you do, don't fit the thinner radiator from a 340. It will work fine with gentle driving, but it will get too warm in town and on motorways at anything over 75 mph.
From memory, 360 radiators are 34 mm thick, 340 ones 17 mm.
Cheers
Tom
EDIT: just realised you're in Australia, so no 340s there! The 360 radiator is model specific - there's nothing else that will fit "out of the box". You should be able to get it re-cored locally though.

Re: different radiator?
Hi Tom.
I ran my GLT on a 1.4 rad for years. You have to cut a piece of
the plastic couling out for the top hose. It never over heated once.
Maybe i just got lucky
Cheers Mark.

Re: different radiator?
I ran my GLT with a 340 radiator for a while too (unknowingly). It never overheated either. But the temperature level was never quite right (always just right off centre) and it got worse in traffic jams and at higher motorway speeds ...
Definitely just a "temporary fix"...
Cheers

Re: different radiator?
for mk3's 340 1.4 rad is just as thick as a 360 rad, difference is the thermoswitch that the 360 doesn't have
340 1.7's have the thinner rad
340 1.7's have the thinner rad

Re: different radiator?
I don't know from which car it came, but the thin radiator gave me a few headaches with my GLT. When I bought the car, I noticed the temperature was a tad too high compared with my GLi. Checked the radiator first (the condition, not the thickness) - everything seemed OK. Had the water pump replaced (QH). No difference. Had the whole system flushed. No difference. Fitted a thermostat which opens later. Hardly any difference. Removed the radiator, had it tested by a local place which mends these things. They reported back "your radiator is fine!".
Replaced the QH water pump for an original Volvo one when the cambelt was done: no difference.
It took me a few years to consider comparing the actual radiator thickness with my GLi. Auradia 34mm rad fitted - problem solved
Cheers
