Gerbox change 4 to 5 !!!!

Post by Omar »

Whether difficultly to change a box of transfers with 4 step on 5 step!? On motor B14 3e! What it is necessary to make for this purpose? Or it universal? One to turn off another to put and all? :?:

its very easy just find your self a 5 speed with diff from a b14
it is more or less a straight swap
remove propshaft
undo drive shafts
disconect gear linkage....also bar at front of gearbox
you have 4 mounting bolts undo and remove comlete transmission
you will also have to disconect the handbrake cable
good luck

@daffodil

are you sure there is no need to change the gear lever mechanism??

so you get to keep the lever with markings for 4 gears

there is no need to change the gear linkage...it all fits straight on
as for the 4 speed knob...you can put a 5 speed in its place

Hi Daffodil,

many thanks for this reply.

a friend of mine has a 1979 343 manual (one of the very first!) and he wishes to mount a 5 speed box too.

for originality reasons he prefers to keep the 4 speed knob.

keeping the entire lever mechanism is even easier, so I think he will be pleased with this knowledge!

Greetings Wouter

the differential housing is different between 4 and 5 speed versions.

so naturally, you change it as well.
