Project T5 360.
Re: Project T5 360.
That is a great set of photos! Bell housing on, engine mount plates ready, that is gorgeous!

Re: Project T5 360.
A bit more progress.
(test fitting the driveline)
(marked it to see how much travel the clutch has)
Clutch release mechanics sit well with heaps of travel and the spline goes in nice and deep for the clutch plate to have a bit of movement. I ordered a spare release bearing just in case but looks like it will be fine.
Going on a holiday for 2 weeks tomorrow, but dad said he'll be finishing off the rust repairs around the windshield meanwhile. Once I return we will start putting the motor in.
Cheers.

Look forward to seeing it in there dude
Re: Project T5 360.
So I returned from my holiday yesterday to find that the old man has got some work in on the car.
Here's some pictures and I'll be throwing in another update by the weekend:

Re: Project T5 360.
Ahh.
So the big bar that the sway bar bolts onto is kind of in the way.. We dropped the whole set up and now the sump is catching onto the steering rack so the sump will come off next and hopefully we are able to get a bit taken off so the engine can fit in. It's only off by about 20mm in both directions.
Sorry about no pictures this time.. I shall post some on Thursday.
Cheers.

Re: Project T5 360.
Another weekend up with a bit more progress!
We have the engine sitting pretty much how we want now with the driveline and everything in. The sump is still out so I think everything will have to come out again but the engine mounts will come first.
The engine sits in there beautifully and the adapter plate slots right into the gap in the subframe. Also the demister fan may actually fit with a bit of cutting
This wasn't necessary but shortening the passenger side (left hand) rail side of the engine mount will make it easier to fab up the other half of the mount.
The clearance for that turbo is very minimal. We may have to do something about it as we've already ground the compressor housing down a bit but we'll see once it sits on the mounts.
Cheers.

Re: Project T5 360.
this is stunning, you should have a look at adam's one aswell (340GLT on here) I actually saw it in person, he's done a lot of fabrication to get the engine mounted correctly, it actually sits further back in the bay than the f7's.. all of a sudden my f7p seems really useless when compared to this! haha keep at it! and get loads of videos up when its done!

Re: Project T5 360.
Alrighty.
Got the sump back today, 4 weeks and $400 later. Test fitted and it doesn't look warped.
Anyway see how we go and hopefully won't have many problems from here on out!
Cheers.

I had a quick look. His work seems pretty extensive and I don't think I'd have the free time to do everything that wellsmchris wrote:this is stunning, you should have a look at adam's one aswell (340GLT on here) I actually saw it in person, he's done a lot of fabrication to get the engine mounted correctly, it actually sits further back in the bay than the f7's.. all of a sudden my f7p seems really useless when compared to this! haha keep at it! and get loads of videos up when its done!

Re: Project T5 360.
So we managed to fit the sump on without having to pull the engine out again. We also got the left hand engine mount finished today, just need to put a coat of black on it and bolt it in.
Re: Project T5 360.
Finally we got to put the engine crane away and the mounts are in. We managed to move the right hand rail side of the mount forward a bit, and put a bit of support inside the chassis so it won't collapse under the weight.
We've also started doing the engine wiring and got around to wiring the gauges and head unit in.
There's a fair bit of head scratching with the wiring as the engine and harness+ECU are from different cars, so the diagram we currently have has incorrect information.
Anyway here's some pictures

Re: Project T5 360.
G'day.
Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I was hoping to have a video in this update of it running but we went to turn it over for the first time today and we're not getting spark. I've got a feeling it's got something to do with the internal immobilizer in the ECU
Anyway we'll do some testing on it tomorrow and I'll get more pictures of the things we've done in the recent weeks.
Here's a quick shot I took of her yesterday.
If you're wondering, I do have an intercooler for it. I just plumbed it in quickly to try and start it.
Cheers

Re: Project T5 360.
I'm back from my holiday in Finland.
Picked up some parts over there, including an ecu from a manual 850 turbo.
Anyway we changed some parts over today and turned her over again and she fired up. Also it stayed running for a while so I'm assuming this ECU that we have also doesn't have the internal immobilizer which is even more of a win.
I'll see if I can get a video of it running later on today.
EDIT:
Here's the video. It's not much but eh.

Re: Project T5 360.
We've got the swaybar crossmember thingy re fabricated and back in. Also I got some pictures of the turbo oil drain set up and what we've started doing with the cooling system.
We should have it pretty much in drivable condition in 1-2 months so not much longer now. Then we'll be getting into the suspension and brakes.
Cheers.

Re: Project T5 360.
Here we are.
The car is almost done. We've made quite a lot of progress in the past month. Here's the pictures.
The exhaust was a bit fiddly with the 3 inch down pipe and all. There's still a bit of work to do on it though.
As you can see there is not a lot of room in the front there. Couldn't find a 6pk belt in that size so we had to use a 5pk.
At the moment the car runs really rich, and the fans kick in after about 5 seconds of running, so I'm assuming it's just the coolant temp sensor (here's hoping)
I'm pretty happy with the front end of it. Can't really even see the intercooler piping with everything on there, so if the bonnet fits fine I'll be happy.
If the sensor fixes the mixture problem, there will be a video of it driving tomorrow. I've got the fuel pressure set to manufacturers specs so altering that will be a last resort.
Cheers.
