Greetings from Zagreb

Post by diesel » 02 Jul 2013 09:48 pm

Hello everyone, my name is Berislav from Zagreb, Croatia. I am proud owner of a 340 GL 1,6 diesel, i bought it from my cousin last month it was his grandfathers car. He bought it in 1986 in a town called Rijeka, Croatia, back then it cost 45 000 deutch marks DEM, that was equilent to a two bedrom apartmant in the centre of Zagreb (120 000 euros in todays money). It was very rare because we were comunist country with lots of Yugos and taxes for import cars were very very high. The car has original 115 000 km from new, all service history, never been crashed, never seen snow or salty roads (not driven trough winter time). I have managed to drive it for a 4000 km during last month and smile doesn't come off my face :) Runs like a dream, comfortablly, lots of room (5 door), big boot, low consumption, the only defect is a broken odometar.... Once again greetings everyone and please excuse mine english i am not a native speaker... :)

Hello Berislav!

The smile doesn't come off your face as the car cannot go fast enough to remove it!

The odometer should be easy enough to fix: Drive? Cable? or instrument?

PS. Welcome to the EU too! sm4

Thank you for the P.S. :)

The speed pointer was working but the km counter did not turn.

My brother dismanteled the whole odo unit and now even the speed pointer does not work :) I am driving blind, just oriented by the sound of an engine :)

This may help for the speedo http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =39&t=4147

VDO manufacture km clocks shouldn't be too hard to find for replacement.

The picture links don't work for me, but I'm not on Facebook.

One of my 300s is a diesel too (RHD, Irish), but it needs a lot of work: http://www.flickr.com/photos/19864651@N ... 670898229/

Tnx, yes a GL but since I am new to the 300 world I am not so informed about those marking and what it stands for

This white van in the picture next to Volvo is mine 2012 Citroen Nemo 1,4 hdi, I loved it and drove it constantly but then I met a 340 GL....Now, poor Nemo is forgotten on the parking lot and I only drive 340 :)

Approx order is L basic > DL (+DLS) > GL (+GLS) > GLE > GLT.

But specification varies from country to country. The UK / IE market DL has headlamp and rear window wash/wiper. Your DE market GL has neither. This is mainly because of local taxes.

Poor Nemo!

It never had wipers as I was told. Instead of wipers there was plastic cover.

Is it possible to install an air condition unit in my type of a car?

Hard work.

Use fresh air blower (does it work) or wind down the windows! 8)

It works but it is fresh only on the open road, but my driving is a 90 % town so it gets very hot at the traffic lights...:)

Were there original AC units installed in the car and where it can be found?
