Hello everybody from Italy!!

Post by KURGAN » 05 Oct 2013 09:35 pm

As title says,HELLO EVERYBODY!!!

My name is Dario,i'm 27 years old and i'm from Veneto region ,North east Italy (near Venice). I've Always been a car enthusiast since when i was a child, the sad thing for a car enthusiast like me is that nowdays cars are boring and....i can't find the words to describe what i mean......maybe "gay" could explain the concept...anyway,i absolutely prefer old cars. And the idea of driving a car that i use to see on the roads during my childhood is great in my opinion.
In fact i'd like to buy a 300 series because here in Italy it was rare even when it was new,and because i'd like an RWD car and then i like the unusual scheme of the 300 series (dedion rear bridge).

But don't think i'm looking for an old car because i'm a bit bored of my modern one, absolutely not!! I'm proud of my 1995 Jeep YJ Wrangler 4.0 H.O. 5 speed manual, the squared headlights one. Yes,Jeep brand is my first passion.
And,until a couple of weeks ago,i had my grandfather's 1991 Autobianchi Y10 Fire,a really funny small car,it still runs well, but the body is completely rusted so next week i've got to drive it to the junkyard (the 300 series will be her replacement)

Sorry for my unperfect English.

Thanks guys! I'm happy for this, but i was a bit scared from my English skills because i see that most of the members are from UK,and people from UK are the best with English.
The problem is when you've got to explain something and you don't know the words you need...anyway,the positive thing is that reading this forum i can learn a lot of new words about cars world, words that nobody teach you at school

Er, no. Some are, some aren't...

Welcome Dario. Your English is very good.
KURGAN wrote:maybe "gay" could explain the concept
I'd keep that to casual conversation as in gay(4): http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/gay 4 "informal, often offensive foolish, stupid, or unimpressive". It's perfect though for "Top Gear" speak.

I can understand your worries finding the right words though. Technical ones can be a problem, as they can be quite different in British English and American English.

de Dion axle. "assale"? might be a better fit?

Surely not all uk citizens are English masters, but i can say that if i've got to speak in English with a uk guy there's no problems (all words are understandable) if you speak with Americans is harder because they're super fast and like to "eat" some part of the words....in example, here in Vicenza there are a lot of American soldiers (there are 3 US Army bases) and at pubs or bars it happens to speak with them, but, honestly, sometimes i feel a bit stupid because i've often got to ask them "could you repeat a bit slowly, please?"

Anyway, there are a lot of Italians that are really bad at writing and speaking, probably because we generally speak our local dialects.

Sorry for the rear axle,i literally translate from Italian (we say "ponte De Dion" ,bridge = ponte) but is evident that you don't use to call "bridge" the axles.
In example solid axle = "ponte rigido".

I've got no experience with Scottish, but like i said in another topic,i knew some people from Wales, and,to be honest, they weren't so easy to understand.

I like the speech of Jeremy Clarkson (but not all the things he said) ,he seems an English teacher.......he reminds me first school years "Lesson numer one : the pen is on the table" :D My teacher had the same speech :D
