Anyone Recognise These 2?

Post by Hell Driver » 11 Dec 2013 10:51 pm

White one has non standard wheels.

Interesting to see the pre-accident prices, £700 and £600.

Maybe on the high side to encourage higher bidding or have values risen a bit more recently.

What a waste of 2 X 3 door cars. Both front ends, most likely own faults but maybe someone knows better?

I'd bid for them to save parts but they are both Cat B and I can't

Cat B?! That's ludicrous. I seem to think I've seen the white one but I've seen more than 20 white 2 doors now, could have been any of them. Most likely driver error, it'll happen when the 2 main groups of drivers for these cars are blind old people and stupid young people

Andy do you know anyone who can bid on those? The white one is a spares only car but the blue one looks ok. If that is in chester its close enough for me to save.

I can't as I'm not a registered breaker/waste transferer etc. etc. I was wondering if I could find a local scrap yard who could get one. Problem is they have to keep the car there and break it themselves so your back to messing about going to get parts off there instead of at home and paying extra!. White one is only 15 miles from me

If I can think of anyone I'll let you know. Do you think scrap yards are members of these organisations (co-part etc.)or do they get them straight from the insurers?

They are BOTH B by the way...no go for ever going back on the road in the UK.

You can put a B back on the road, admittedly it's a total ball-ache, but it's still legally possible for the strongly determined/mad.

An cat A, B, C will get a marker on the vehicle file with the DVLA, the marker can be lifted when the ID is confirmed after doing a VIC.

The A, B, C, D business is an insurance code of practice. It isn't the law. That's the detail of the difference.

Yes, you'd need to get your mitts on it in the first place and the code doesn't particularly like flogging a motor to any Tom, Dick or Harry.
Yes, it'd need to undergo uneconomic proper repair.
Yes, it'd need a VIC in order to get a V5C issued.
Yes, it'd need someone will to insure it.
Yes, it'd have the marker hanging round it's neck so in the event of a future payout, the value of the vehicle will be reduced accordingly.
Yes, it's not worth the hassle.

But you can still do it. There's only a code which ain't the law.

Insurance would not be a problem for with motor trade insurance.

I'm not convinced I'd take a punt on something that had been Cat B'd, just for the hassle. It's not like they are *that* rare yet.

(He says, having rescued his car when it got Cat C'd)

EDIT: Also... HOW MUCH?! You can get one with tax and ticket for that!

That's pre-accident value! In that state they should go for peanuts.

But:

Minimum starting bid is £150. Add auction fees £44, loading charge £10, internet bidding fee £5 and it will add up to £209 and then VAT.

£250 , yes, you probably could get one with M.O.T. and a bit of tax for that.

I'd imagine that the first bidder gets it :P Whos going to go higher?

That makes neither of them worth it.

Looks like they will both end up crushed :(

That's the problem with co-part, only worth getting an easy fix car from them like that 360 saloon I got last year. And even that was a bit steep at £275 all in (but at least it only needs a bumper, rad, light, indicator and grill, all of which I had already!).

Would only be worth saving rare early cars like Mk1's or GLTs. There was a good low mileage fixable 3 door 360 GLT I bid on recently. I stopped as someone else was bidding on it and it had had quite a heavy rear end shunt. It was fixable but I noticed a possible ripple type dent that had formed between the rear wheel arch and the door. I only really wanted it for the seats and black roof lining so the rising price made it not worth it. I had half a mind to save it though if it had not turned out to be a dent related to the accident. Hope it got saved!! Anyone on here?

Interesting info on the Cat B issue there, but sounds like a lot of hassle, and they are well beyond my skills/pocket to repair!

The whole categorisation issue is quite interesting. I think some assessors seem a bit too keen on older stuff to write them off to feed the salvage system (and stick in a low-ball value to boot).

I'm not too keen on these voluntary regulation type schemes myself....

Useful spares - I wouldn't touch either of them with the thought of one going back on the road though. Think I'd agree with Andy - only worth it for very light damage considering the prices they fetch
