So I managed to get 2 proper ones from a local part store and I had to re-do most of the piping between the IC and throttle body. Seems to be good now.
Anyway I think it still has a bit of a problem. I don't know I might try thicker oil or something. The lifters start getting noisy if the car sits idle for a while when warm so I think the pick up isn't sitting good. Probably need to get a sump made up since the oil pressure gauge I have either reads 0 or jumps between 1.5-4 like crazy.
I did manage to get this out of it though, didn't want to go too fast being a neighborhood and all that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgffCAFcOEE

with the IC pipe to me it looks like the pipe needs trimming back a little to help it line up better.
The oil pressure could be something to do with the seal on the oil pump? Have a look on T5D5 forum, I'm sure it is a known problem with a known solution.

Well it's weird cause it has pressure when it's cold. Even when it's been sitting for over an hour warm it still doesn't get pressure when you start it up so I don't think it's a lack of oil in the sump. Yeah that's a bit worrying about the pressure fluctuation. The only thing I can think of is the above, unless it's a pump issue? Can't see that being temperamental though. Video looks good dude, I'm jealous.

That looks amusingly fast! Fast enough to worry the suspension and brakes I'd imagine... love this project

Yeah it's got me puzzled. We pulled off the sump last night, changed the pick up o-ring and checked the 2 o-rings on the edge of the sump. Tonight we pulled off the oil pump, packed it with grease and chucked it back together. Now it's getting no pressure even if it's been sitting. I think I'll be taking the sump off again tomorrow and making sure that pick up went in right. I don't think the way it sits would put the oil at enough of a slant for the pick up to start slurping in air.Speedy88 wrote:Yeah that's a bit worrying about the pressure fluctuation. Though when we started it up before we pulled the sump off and it got a bit of pressure for a while and the oil looked really aerated.

Funnily enough, I just killed an 850 (2.5 10v NA) engine through lack of oil pressure. I suspect the pump has died. My D5 is also slow to build pressure from a cold start...as if a one-way valve has failed. Hasn't got any worse in 85k miles, and no-one seems to know the cause, so I'm just not worrying too much!

yeah I've searched up on it for hours and everyone says pick up or sump o rings. we got a new sealant for the rocker cover (loctite 518) and put it back together yesterday. Checked the head oil passages while we were there with an inspection camera but they look fine. It gets pressure when you rev it now so may just be a lack of oil at this point.
Either way we used the shit sealant on the block as well so may need to pull the engine out again as that could be leaking through as well.
Anyway I'll keep you guys posted.

Alright.
Got the engine out, and split the block. Big ends and mains look all good so I re sealed it with the new sealant. I'm flying out tomorrow and can't be bothered to work on it today so dad might do something while I'm on my holiday but if not I'll be getting back into it on the 6th. This time though we're going to spin the motor on the stand with a drill and going to put in another pressure sensor to see how we go.That way we can also alter the angle of the motor to see if the way it's sitting affects it at all.

Anyway, sump and pick up have been modified, we have oil pressure, but oil is pushing through the turbo into the exhaust.
As my parents have moved to another state, the car is currently at work so now I at least have a hoist to do the rest of the repairs.
The sump is leaking a fair bit as it was a shitty home job, but I have a spare sump in the boot so I'll probably get that modified properly to the same dimensions and we'll be good. I'm going to try and get the turbo return problem sorted this weekend so I can get some more footage going

Always thought a 5 cylinder was much longer than a redblok, but the lenght seems to be the same (bad ideas are growing now.. n/a 2.5 20v
