Hello,
I will possibily aquire another volvo 340 1.4, also on lpg for cheap, but it has a burn head gasket.
As i already have a 340 1.4, i'd like to swap that engine to the new one, since both are lpg, etc. etc., and the new one is mint condition.
The problem is: I don't have a hoist. I have a garage, space to do it, but no way to get a hoist. They are expensive and seems like i can't get one borrowed.
As anyone ever done this without hoist? don't know, maybe lifting the car? The engine is small, is it that heavy?

If you have a strong roof beam you can use a winch to the lift the engine. If have lifted them out by hand by you need more control to line the mounts up when re fitting

I changed a 340 engine with some mates and a 10ft cb aerial pole and a ground breaking spike taped together vertically with masking tape. The pole bent a little the first go and we needed to spread the load a bit. engines don't weight that much, about the same as a big person, just akwardly shapped.

Another one I have done is use a scaffold tube across the car with a support either end two keep it off the body work. With someone each end to lift and someone to guide the engine you can keep reasonable control of it for lifting and refitting
