Escort mk2 quick rack
Escort mk2 quick rack
What does it take to make it proper fit in a 300? Anyone been looking into this?
Re: Escort mk2 quick rack
Theres one for sale right now.... been done a few times, mainly by Nev @ driftmoto
Requires custom mounts and a little fiddle with the UJ on the column

Re: Escort mk2 quick rack
I've a LHD car, so.. All the fab work to get it fit, is no problem. Is the length of the rack ok? To avoid bumpsteer issues?
Or does the rack needs to be cut as well?

Re: Escort mk2 quick rack
of course you do, doh!!
i dont know, ive got an EPS column and spare 300 column to chop about, then eventually id like to couple them to a 2.5 turn rack .... hopefully Dai will have looked into a 300 specific quick rack by the time i get there. if you go ahead with the escort rack, please keep us informed

Re: Escort mk2 quick rack
I' m quite sure dai is pretty much ready with the RHD quick rack. I emailed with him about the production of a LHD rack as well, but somehow they are way more expensive as the RHD.
Re: Escort mk2 quick rack
I'm not sure what Nev does, but on a standard Escort quick rack I measured a few years ago the inner ball joints are around 2" different.Frits wrote:To avoid bumpsteer issues?

Which given the column mount is not central to the rack, means that if you don't modify the rack itself not only will you get bump steer, but it will be asymmetric.
EDIT: The other thing to measure is total distance the rack moves for those 2.4 turns. No point having a quick rack if all you effectively have is the central part of a standard rack

Re: Escort mk2 quick rack
So either way you have to move lower arm one inch outside, or cut the rack 2".
travel of the rack should be ok, otherwise swap in a 300 would't be logical. Since nev does this, it should be workable. But still something to keep a eye on for sure.

Agreed on travel, the drift guys have more need than most for more rather than less!
