Alloy wheel colour

Post by Ride_on » 28 Jul 2015 07:41 pm

Does any one have the paint code for the 360 14" alloys, the later mk3 ones?

I'm wondering if they painted the alloys black on the inside like the steelies?

I'd just go for RAL9006, nothing flashy. Painting or powder coating? My last powder coating of alloys (old GT alloys) was a bit of a disaster due to outgassing. :(

Good to have the RAL code thanks, was in 2 minds the original is a bit boring and was thinking of a cheeky deviation like gun metal, A bit like the silver intercooler blatantly sitting in the grill. But may just stick with the sleeper mode.

Have been offered bead blast with powder and acid with wet. I think either can be fine if done right.

Surprise to see outgassing on solid metal, maybe not so solid. Should they be baked first? I know we have the same problem with chips or boards (integrated circuits) that have been lying around for 6 months have absorbed too much moisture to be heated to solder melting temperatures without blistering on the board or chips.

Evening girls,

I've used this on several occasions and found it to be a verrry close match for 300 alloy.
(Last used on a set of 13" GLE wheels - just about indistinguishable.)

Good prep. and good etch primer and worked well.

I'm not sure that it is the RAL code, but it is a RAL code for boring aluminium colour.

Last set of steelies I had powder coated in a version of silver was more metallicy bling, than that. Unfortunately I don't have any photos to hand of that work, not that a digital camera and a uncalibrated monitor is going to be all that precise. Ask for the colour chips?

Re: outgassing, apparently they were pre-heated first and another powder coaters might have made something different of them. There are lots of wee craters in the finish. If I were doing those particular wheels again, I'd just wet spray them.

I'd go for gunmetal too, you'd want to hide their slightly ugly appearance

Likewise, with the intercooler I'd be painting it black :D
