Project one. Aka Astrell tweeks

Post by White-Shepherd86 » 11 Jun 2017 09:22 am

I bought a f7r powered 340 in need of some tlc, as I decided it was time for me to get a project car. I bought it off Ollie in n ireland and he kindly delivered it to my door. We got it manouevered into my drive between the two of us, it would idle but not take throttle. When idling it was around 2500rpm and died out when pressing the throttle, battery went flat from dying out and restarting all the time, also the starter solenoid burnt out.
So far I have:
Recharged the battery
Replaced the coolant sensor
Replaced and Teed in the map sensor
Cleaned out idle speed control valve
Adjusted the throttle position sensor (this sorted the high idle, still won't take throttle)
Starter motor stripped and new solenoid and brushes ordered.

To do:
Reposition fuel pump closer to the tank, wondering if a non return valve would take the pressure off the pump instead?
Replace fuel lines as they look a little soft
Tidy up wiring in around the engine
Heli coil some rocker cover bolts and fit new rocker gasket
New engine oil and filter
New coolant
New spark plugs and leads
Replace timing belt
Check distributor timing
Sort body/paint
Suspension

I'm sure there will be much nore.

The car you have bought is known here as Astrell Tweeks.
Its owner before Ollie was a Van the Man fan lol.
The is an Astrell Tweeks thread on here somewhere.
Where abouts are you in this wonderfull land?
Also it used to be red.
Cheers Mark.

Hi yeah I have been added to a progress album of the car from when it was red, it is in dire need of tlc; the bulk of the car is good though.

Rebuilt my starter, started once ticked over 30seconds then died. Starter wouldn't engage again, my solder gave way need to rebuild it again. Couldn't do much else so had a look at some wiring, need a few connectors out where wires are just swilled together

So this has been a while. I have rebuilt my engine, running problems were caused by the inlet cam had sheared its key and was a quarter turn out. Engine isn't back in the car yet, still in my bedroom. Lol I have been building a garage for the Volvo which has significantly slower my progress.

Garage finally built, started to recondition the transmission today, gearbox and diff seem fine so just giving it a clean and some new seals.
Need to get the Volvo into the garage now so I can start on the body work.
