Volvo Key Blank required

Post by TasMan » 04 Sep 2019 09:59 pm

Hello all.....I am in need of a spare key for my 'new' 360.

The car has come with two ignition keys, and one key for the doors/boot. I knew this before I bought the car and I can only assume the ignition barrel has been replaced at some point... :?

I would like to get a spare door key cut and wondered if anyone knows of a supplier of Volvo key blanks ? I have tried a local locksmith who does car keys and also Timpsons on the high street to no avail. Timpsons actually were quite helpful and gave me the blank details as per the pic below (HD HF46) but they no longer stock this blank.

I noted on here that Volvo could supply new keys using the reg no. - is this still the case ? Of course, I can't be 100% sure the key I would get wouldn't be another ignition key rather than door/boot key due to having two different keys! The door key I have looks like it had an integral torch (now broken) so I am figuring the door/boot locks are likely original to the car and the ignition barrel has been changed at some point. Any help welcome or should I just visit my dealer ?
Thanks

Hi mate.
They can be cut here in Belfast but you would have to send
yours over to me to get it cut . probably not a viable option.
Cheers Mark.

So far I can see Onderdelen (a good supplier) have them:

https://www.volvo340onderdelen.nl/en/se ... eries.html

but they're more than a bit pricey with the postage!

There's also keysinthepost.com which has good reviews and does individual 340 keys.

Thanks for both replies.
Mark, appreciate the offer, possibly a last resort as I would then be without the only key I have at the moment.

Bogbasic, Thanks for the links, I had found the keysinthepost site by chance but can't find any key numbers at all. They say they can cut a key by photograph but not sure how they do that. The other link is interesting, quite pricey as you say, will have a think. :)

Well I had a stroke of luck with obtaining a key. I was going through all the paperwork with the car and handwritten on the original PDI sheet was the key code ! I took the view this was likely to be the door/boot key and it was the ignition barrel that had been changed so I contacted 'keysinthepost' and they confirmed it was a valid Volvo key code.
Today the key arrived and it works perfectly for the doors/boot...nice result!
They will either cut a key to a code or a good image of your key (I sent them both).
Worth a try if you are needing a key... :D

Coolio. I will try it. So do keysinthepost have blanks? They just need a part-number (no chance in my case) or a decent piccy and they can find the right blank and cut it?

Hi Jon, Yes they have the blanks as I just supplied the code/image and the key arrived :-)
I would recommend taking a photo against something like a sheet of white paper so that they have a clear profile of the key. Still not sure how they manage to cut a key from a photo that accurately works but I guess its what they do. In the FAQ's they state :-
"Q: What if the key I buy from you doesn’t fit?
A: We will work with you to understand why, and if necessary supply you with another key which will fit. If we are unable to supply a key which fits we’ll provide you with a full refund".

Hope you get sorted out.
Cheers Dave

Funny thing is I went to the local hardware shop and asked if they could cut my key. They actually had the blank (and 3 spares) so cut it there and then for £6. It works, too. Londinium innit.
