scrap your old car! ! !

I have no desire to own a new car. I like to feel connected to the road. I want to think that when i turn the steering wheel, I'm turning a cog, that is running on a rack, and moving the wheels on the floor. i don't want to feel that I'm turning a potentiometer, that is increasing the value on a computer interface, that's doing computer bollocks, and then making the wheels move.
I work a lot with computers and computers are just crap.

for me you can keep your drive by wire and your digital speed responsive steering. I'll have rack and pinion and a big ass accelerator cable any day!

drive by wire is still not allowed in the EU - all cars must have a physical connection twixt wheels and the steering wheel

I hate seeing cars crushed, I think parting them out through a scrapyard is far better. On the news, even if a Rover is crushed, you think, surley someone would want that grill/headlights/headlight wipers

Very true, crushing a car when it still has usable bits is wrong. I dread to think how many 300's with rare parts, gauges etc have met their end in the crusher, with no chance of anyone getting the parts, and even paying good money for them! When I've asked in a few of our local yards, they often say, nah we don't even bother with them, they go straight in the crusher. They're not even interested in saving them if I tell them what I want!

If I had a pound for everytime I'd been TOLD - not advised, to scrap my car I would be considerably better off! It has been quite upsetting over the years as these 'scrap your old crap car' addicts get very forceful! Still, I get a little smile on my face when they are on their third car in the same space of time as my oldie has lasted me.

Good stuff! Don't ever let anyone convince you otherwise. People have tried with me, and I've put forward a good argument, but they don't understand, it's not that I can't afford, or only have 300's, it's that I like them and want to drive them. And it is satisfying when their cars then end up failing prematurely!
