I hate "todoterrenos" terranos, gallopers, etcetc, and this Terrano caused the accident. sm2

The most important thing: there were no victims.

Owch!

Volvos are strong motors.. bit I can see who came off worse.

I hope you wasnt hurt, though by looking at it I guess you must have been.

Imagine if you had been in an escort! 340pw

Looks like it stood up well to the higher Terrano. The rescure team had to do some serious cutting there to remove the occupants, but Volvo safety is something I can testify to! Glad no one was badly injured.

That sends a chill up the spine... Having said that, the passenger compartment looks like it held good integrity there.

I always feel safer in a car with the engine pointing the right way round, and a nice strong prop shaft giving extra longnitudinal strength! I'm sure the fact that it was a flat head on strike helped things a lot too.

Anyone got any crash safety data on the 300?

The Ford would have been near twice the weigh of the volvo, stood up well and most importantly, absorbed the forces. The side impact bars in the doors are also substantial in 300's.

There is some real-life-accident-info available at http://www.folksam.se/engelsk/index.htm

Click "How safe is your car", then "The Folksam list with real-life accidents" and select Volvo.

Quite interesting to see that the 300 series are the Volvos with the lowest safety level (which is still average though)

that's very interesting, thanks!

Note that it's quite difficult to find a car from the same era which is safer, or even as safe as a Volvo 300. The Saab 900 being a notable exception. Compare with old golfs and beemer 3's however and you will feel positively indestructible.
