An engine and bellhousing takes up less room than a car :)

340 diesel

Post by mgarageu »

i use to own 340 diesel LHD. have replaced the engine lower part on it because the cylinders were badly worn. do not understand about diesel injection pump and steering matter at all. the diesel inj. pump is located at the left side of the engine. engine lower part is almost similar to 1,7 gasoline engine, except the belt-driven vacuum pump, which is at right, near the front right engine mount. oil sump and all engine nounts are the same as used on 1,7 gasoline engine. so as the bell housing and the clutch shaft. the clutch itself is little different. Renault number of diesel engines are F8M and F8Q and were used on R5,9,11,Express,19 etc. to install 1,9 diesel instead of 1,6 diesel no major work is needed. if you pick up engine from FWD car you need to replace oil sump and some minor changes must be carried out. also the exhaust front part is the same as used on 1,7 gasoline engine. different for TD! (you may consider custom exhaust, if you will install TD) :340:
p.s. have done RHD to LHD rebuild on 300-series car earlier...

a friend of mine, also a member of V3C (NL) has a 340 saloon with a 1.9D engine in it. It looks exactly the same as a 1.6D.
pulls quite a bit better. as said, it compares to a good 1.4, with more torque at lower rev. range.

consumption is not as economical as a 1.6D (1L on 18 km = 5,5L/100Km) but more like 1:16 to 1:16,5 (= 6,25L/100Km)
still quite cheap to drive... (exept for the darned road tax over here for diesels... its terrible)

greetings Wouter
