Yes engine block are the sames..

And with the 1.7 Turbo you can get a lot of power (150...160 all depends..) with less weight in the front

I do know that its easier to get more power from 1,7 Turbo and its lighter..But that kind of engine conversion is impossible here in Finland.
The answer is The Finnish Law which is straight from a**
And why, because 300s have never made with 1,7 turbo and we NEVER cant get that car registered. umm..well yes we can but car is taxed again with MORE taxes and its really not worth it

I dont know how laws are in other countries in europe but looking Finland with carbuilders eyes, its not good to live in Finland.
Many thanks guys to you for the help and for advice. I shall try to make all.
Its up to you Omar what you want to do with your 340

In the Uk pretty much anything is a go, but they will kill you with the price of insurance. For example i wont physically be allowed to insure a 1.7 turbo in a 300 on my own policy until i am 19 but there are legal ways around that!!!!

Arnagath you can put 1.7 turbo in too. Just as long as it isn't more than 20% more powerfull than the most powerfull engine in the car you are putting it in. In this case 138hp max in 300-series. Engine must also not be more than 20% heavier than the heaviest stock engine. Displacement must not be more than 25% bigger than in the biggest displacement stock engine. Of course if you go to Volvo and ask from them they might say that no you can't put it in but they are not the law. ;)

Of course these will apply only if your car isn't marked as low emission car. (All -92 and above are and some older too) Then the rules are a bit different.

For example 16V 2.5l Penta engine hasn't been available for 300-series and yet SJS has one in his 340. ;) And if you couldn't put in an engine which hasn't been available as stock then how would so many built American cars have these very different engines in. :P

There's the law text:

1. Muutoskatsastuksessa saadaan hyväksyä alkuperäistä kevyemmän, teholtaan tai iskutilavuudeltaan pienemmän moottorin vaihtaminen.

2. Muutoskatsastuksessa saadaan hyväksyä myös sellaisen alkuperäistä painavamman, teholtaan tai iskutilavuudeltaan suuremman moottorin (vertailumoottori) vaihtaminen, jonka auton valmistaja on tarkoittanut käytettäväksi samaan mallisarjaan kuuluvassa, yleiseen tieliikenteeseen tarkoitetussa autossa, taikka myös vertailumoottoreita tehokkaamman, painavamman tai iskutilavuudeltaan suuremman moottorin vaihtaminen. Vaihtaminen on sallittua seuraavin edellytyksin:

Well... here in Portugal is not allowed to, but he Police don't see that (if it isn't very obvious by the outside of the car like tunners and so..) and in the inspeccions (like MOT) you only need to.... meet someone.

By the way, yesterday I have find a excelent deal to but the Turbo motor, but now I have a problem...

I need to get the motor out of the 440, the B172K out of the 340, and put the Turbo in the 340...

Well... as I don't have a crane to swap engines and it must be heavy... any suggestions?

Ah, ok.. now I get it!

sounds good, but be aware that the B200 needs totally different engine supports than the B14!

it's a lot of work .... most of the times it is easier to get a 360.

Yes it will be clear that work heavy. прочти a theme from the very beginning. I shall take the whole авто 360 and all from it to take out and rearrange in the 340. Difficultly but result it will be possible to brag on races. Having overtaken the former contenders.
