There was some talk in 300power.com about fitting a transaxle system from Porsche 928. It looks like it would fit with some work. 928 GTS packs 340hp/500Nm stock and what I have heard there has been no problems with turbocharged ones either. So who is going to be the first one with Porsche transaxle? Only minus seems to be the price, those are not so cheap as ones from 300-series. There are also automatic versions.
i wonder if you could ditch the bell housing, torq tube and selector rod and just use the box and final drive......? do these have lsd's as standard and better final drive and g'box ratios than the stock 300 ones....?
interesting....

I think the transaxle is key to the character of the 300 series. If I make a big power car, it'll still have a transaxle for sure.
How much power can the Renault ones take Dave? How do you propose to get drive to the rear of the car?
I didn't realise until last night when watching a Jeremy Clarkson DVD at Rupert's place that it was the 928 with the V8 which had the transaxle. I'd always thought it was one of the girly 4-pot Porsches, so dismissed it.
This is definitely an interesting development. For me (so far) it's either 928 or Corvette C5.

Does the rally car not have a Porsche de-dion bar fitted?
If I'm going to the trouble of putting a different box in, I'll be wanting it to hold 600+ lbft. Most likely is that neither will happen, but I'll not be upgrading without the uber-engine...if that makes sense...
