hi, new to this forum, im wanting to fit a newer mor epowerful engine to a 1.4 340, i have herd that the 16v laguna engine is the same block and would fit??
is this true and if so what engine sizes are available, i believe they do a 2.0 16v thats a 140bhp!! but im not sure if the 2.0 will still be the same?
thanks in advance,
Ralph
other engines to fit a 340 1.4
Have a look about the forum, there are severall usefull threads, such as this one http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... php?t=3456
The 1.4 and 1.7 are Renault derived engines, so replacement with other Renaults isn't too difficult, I'm not sure about the Laguna, it may be too new, but certainly older Renault engies can be fitted.

that threads interesting but does not really arnswer my question.
jag V12 be lovely, infact a rover v8 would do lol. but im really after something thats a bit more technical and idealy 1.8-2.0 ish and 16v that will bolt more or less straight fit to the bell housing on the 340?
if anyone knows of any engines that will work as this please help
Ralph.

the later renault engines (megane, etc) can be used when you combine them with a host of volvo 340 1.7 parts (clutch housing, sump, oilpump, engine supports)
for the injection system you'd have to make up your own wiring loom etc, and beware that most modern cars have this annoying starter interrupter built-in.
also, exhaust needs to be custom-made.

re:
thanks antiekeradio thats what im after, so the bell housing/clutch is differant on the 1.7 aposed to the 1.4?
wiring shouldnt be a problem i have wired mutli point injection and electronic ignition in to old carburetter cars before.
again exhaust aint anything the mig welder wouldnt fix!
thanks alot for the help and i hope something comes of this (on my brothers car) i would very much like to see it with a further liese of life!
can anyone confirm if the 1.6/1.8/2.0 16v (i think these are the sizes used) are all the same block?
thanks again,
Ralph

I'm sure the 16 valve lump will fit in. There is a problem with the inlet manifold as the air intake would be where the heater housing is.

I know a R19 16v engine has been fitted to a 440, which is the same block as a 340 1.7. I'm 99% sure the R19 16v engine is the same one used in less exotic models (add at least 50% on to the price for the same engine if it came from a 'sports' model!), so you can probably work out which cars to look for.
