A full black leather interior is hopefully on the way for mine too.
I will have those gauges and fitting kit from you, il give you £50 and what ever the cost it takes
to get them to me.
I too am having the 2.3 turbo, but not until I have resprayed her and overhauled the brakes,
suspension, interior and body work.
I like your car, its very sleeper looking, Im going for the more aggressive look though, but 360s
do look best as sleepers.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Al

Oh, also, is there any way of getting the pod that goes in the
centre console? I heard you could have oil temp, oil pressure and amp gauges?

I've probably already said it in this thread, so apologies if I'm
repeating myself.... I'm trying to create what a '360 Turbo Intercooler' (like a 740 TIC) would
have looked like if they ever made one from the factory.
£50 was including shipping - email me and we'll trade addresses...
James@bigfishcafe.freeserve.co.uk
If anyone else wants one, please get in touch - I've got several kits (don't ask....long story!)
I don't have a spare panel centre-console, but I'll keep my eyes out. They're super rare - I
turned a free one down about 2 years ago (don't ask...) - I might email the guy.... I found my
one on a scrap car with a volt meter and an oil pressure gauge. I just bought a oil temp gauge
off ebay, and I literally sold the voltmeter yesterday :(
You can see those two (oil pressure and temp) in one of those pics.
They're standard 240 gauges, so keep your eyes peeled. Any 52mm gauge will fit, but the
240 ones keep the stock look. The 240 ones are all VDO units... here's a guide to the
range...
http://grove.ufl.edu/~smack118/volvoaccessories.htm
You'll do well to find most of those here though....the only ones I've seen are the two oil
ones, and the voltmeter.
cheers!

Yep, Il have those gauges and fitting kit mate. I dont suppose
you know where I can get the pod in the centre console that housed the extra gauges?
I will soon have a full black leather interior hopefully, if it is in good condition if I cant have one
it will have to be fake leather, black vinyl seat covers *bling*- *bling* I heard they did leather
steering wheels and gear knobs also in some models? if so, then I want them!
My grille will be either black or stainless mesh with the "volvo" badge painted red stuck on it.
I fancy putting an Isuzu trooper vent on it too, and meshing the heater grille black.
My sound system will be built around Kenwood. I have the head unit, which cost me £450, cd
changer mounted in the glove box and some 120w dash mounted tweeters, but I am ordering
a 160w speaker and tweeter set with crossovers, the round knock outs in the front doors will
house the flush mounted tweeters, then Il have some 3 way 300w 6x9s in the parcel shelf
along with some 200w ish component speakers. As for a sub il probably get a 700w and an
amp to power it and another amp to power the speakers.
I think the main problem with the engine conversion to a 2.3 turbo is which engine do you
choose? I read on the net that the post 88 ones were better because they have forged
components so last longer and can take mods and a bit of stick better. But there seems to be
no end of engine choices and whitch year models and the models themselves that you take
them from, eg 740,760,940 etc.
Then comes wiring the ECU up, thats going to be a major headache!
The engines seem to differ mainly in what ECU they have and the type of turbo, LPT, Garret or
Mitsubishi and their horsepower of course. whitch on the 2.3s is bewteen 145bhp and
182bhp.

Most of the leather seats I have found have been chewed up,
but I've just found a rear bench which is sweet!
I've not heard of 300 series cars with leather wheels/sticks - beyond the leather surround to
the gearstick on all models.
The 2.3 turbo engine is a complex one...

the forged bottom end. This would need a load of work (well...a different head), as it never
came as a turbo in the UK.

car (D-F plate?). This has 9mm cod rods - the weak link. Having said that, I've seen a 80k
example for sale for £75!

conrods, but comes tuned down (to the tune of around 10bhp) to meet emissions restrictions....
Alternatively you could go for a B230FK (LPT)....only 135bhp, but the power comes in at
1400rpm. Dad has one in his 940, and its a very 'drivable' combination.
Lets not kid ourselves here - even the 'weak' ET isn't weak by most cars standards. The
bottom end is good for a solid 250bhp, which is the extent of what you can get out of the
stock computers anyway. Bigger boost could see you throwing rods though...
Besides...250bhp ought to see you hitting 0-60 in the low 6's! That's enough for anyone. Any
more than that and you'll start breaking gearboxes and torque tubes (especially if you abuse it
at all.....3krpm clutch dumps and the like).
cheers

Hi everyone.

Sorry to drag this thread back from the dead, but I was wondering whether anyone has gained some insights into the possibilties and impossibilities of the various brake swaps mentioned earlier in this thread?

In a word, no. Its something I keep meaning to look into, but since I fitted my alloys I've found the cooling improved greatly, so it was less of an issue.

The vented front brakes from some 400 series cars ought to fit - give that a try.

The board upgrades have really made a mess of some of these old threads!

cheers

B23ET is only 2.3 turbo which had forged pistons etc... and it is very rare engine because it was only available in -83 and -84 760. But you can get forged pistons and everything from Mahle or Venolia etc... if you wan't. I would probably use -91 or later B230FT because it has oil cooling for pistons and it is one of the strongest blocks. Bottom end is also good in those -91 or later FT's. In Sweden they have gotten out over 370hp with allmost stock bottom end. Balanced of course. So no problem with that. And again stronger parts are available if you wan't something like 500hp or more. 8) FK isn't bad at all either. All FK's have oil cooling for pistons I think and diffrence between FT and FK is the wastegate. FK has lower boost level than FT. So if you get FT's wastegate and put it in to FK you have FT. :P Allthough some engines have had diffrent turbos. Garret and Mitsubishi but the engine itself is pretty much the same.

Are you talking about the strange line breaks in the old messages? That happened during the upgrade 2.0.6 to 2.0.8, long time ago now.

Or is there a new problem with the latest update? (problems with smilies and deformations are normal now, everything isn't installed)

The B23ET was also available in the 240 for some markets.

The FT and FK *are* the same engine and the same wastegate - the wastegate is just adjusted for the higher boost level / later boosting. Check VADIS - the part numbers are all the same.

Aymat - It's almost certainly from many months ago, I've just not noticed!

cheers

By the way.. Anyone knows where could I find VADIS.. Haven't found a working version. Don't post here because I think it's against some rules... :P Email, private or something...

Yeah, many versions that people have are less-than-legitimate, but I know you can buy second hand / old versions (presumably from dealers who must upgrade?) on everyone's favourite online auction site (wink wink!)
