right so...
ive got my manifold..now what do i do? whats the best kinda place to get this fitted? im guessing its going to cost a fortune since the engines gota be removed? if its going to cost more than 250 then im guessing the redline will have to be sold on as i cant afford that right now. and i bought the redline thinking it would be ok
such a shame. i love it to bits.

i recon some of us can probably come and sort out the engine without too much trouble. i doubt it needs dropping out, but i may be wrong..

if the bolts snap, you could probably pick up a new engine for £100 or so and drop that in instead

well, if a few of us pop round, it'd probably cost a few cups of tea and maybe some cake..
really need andy to help out (i can pop up too - but all my tools are in exeter at the mo, so i'm useless on my own) - he's pretty good with getting things sorted. even if the bolts do snap (and i don't really know why they would - i think perhaps your garage is a little paranoid as its an old car - they don't want to write it off) we might be able to drill some threads into them and pull them out that way..

Andy has already offered to come and help once you'd got hold of one! He'll be the man for the job, way better than a garage any day! If I'm about I could pop over too with him and that expansion tank if you still need it and Hugh's kind offer too, they'll be plenty of pairs of hands to get the job done.

Patience, loads of WD-40 and if necessary a little heat will shift those bolts nicely. And no, you definitely don't need to take the engine out to do it. Any garage who told you that shouldn't be let anywhere near it
Lemme speak to Hugh and we'll sort out a time to come and fix it properly, but it won't be for a couple of weeks I'm afraid. I'm busy for the next couple of weekends anyway. Also, what about this fella who's just posted up. He might have a door for you in the right colour? Either that or Hugh's pretty handy with a crowbar

Once you're finished you can all come over to mine and help me do all the work that I've been too lazy to get done on mine
Seriously though, if you need another pair of hands I'm not far away, and the road to Guildford is an enjoyable drive

Another pair o' hands here... if only to borrow Andy's skills and to get him to help with my car too
If theres anything electrical, which isn't wiring up the door mirrors, I can have a look.

Ok, I can actually do the weekend after next, which is 21st or 22nd. I can't do the Saturday cos I've gotta be somewhere else, but I can do Sunday.
Hugh's free too. I'm not sure anybody else would be necessary. But thanks for the offers of help guys
A certain guy in Milton Keynes seems to be keeping a very low profile lately
BTW: Krista can you pop into your local dealer and get a new manifold gasket? In case they get confused, the part number is 3465968

not really a case of keeping a low profile , more of a case of being out on the road trying to find a manifold for the car and trying to help filthy John with his towbar lighting ( something I do know a little about )
I have been to every breakers in Milton Keynes , most of the ones in Bedford ,South Northants, and as far west as Aylesbury and as far south as Luton ,
I havent just been phoning them either, I have been using my time and petrol to go and physically look for a manifold for Krista as I do have a little time during the week,
If I had found a manifold I would have got one and posted it to Krista although I am under no obligation to do so.
Pete knows my feelings about what has happenned to the redline ,we had a long chat on msn during which I asked Pete about parts, he kindly offerred the expansion tank and I forwarded details of the guy Mick T posted about with the 1.7 340 thinking that would be a good source for any parts Krista may need.
most of you know my situaition I not only have five kids to look after but also my disabled father living with us which means I rarely have any time at weekends to myself and is also why making meets has always been a luxury to me and hence I didnt get to some of the more distant ones such
as Ludlow and Devon ( I think Krista got a taste of family life in the redline household ),
That ,and the fact that I do not have the mechanical knowledge to change the manifold, is why I haven't put my name forward to helping with the repair .
Unlike a lot of (especially younger ) members here I have an awful lot of responsibilities /commitments and do not have the free time a lot of you single guys do.
Be honest Andy ,even you doubted the manifold had a hole in it ,
I certainly wasn't aware of the problem, the car had only been used on the road for about 6 weeks since its last mot at the end of March and nothing was mentioned then.
I am certainly not doubting Krista ,( we have spoken on the phone which I am also sure you are unaware of ), I am just saying I wasn't aware of a problem when she bought the car from me.
The car wasn't noisey just rough on tickover which I thought (and posted here) was due to lack of use and .you. yourself thought it was just the choke mechanism sticking
I feel bad about the situaition but there is not a lot I can do about it.
the redline had a service and maintainence record second to none with full dealership service record up to 93,000 miles ( thats only 13,000 less than on the clock now ) and a file of receipts for work done on it . it was sold as seen as all cars of this age are ,
I think what makes this problem much worse is the duff information Krista is getting from the garages she has been to regarding what needs doing and the cost involved.
At the end of the day its no different to the situaition of the rust Carl found on Fioner after buying her from Pete , Pete was not aware of it and I know how bad he felt about it but you cant gaurantee a car of this age to be perfect .
