Just to diffuse tension, I'm sure Andy didn't mean it in a nasty way, and I'm sure he's now got all the facts to know that it's not the case. As Mick says, I've spoken to him on MSN and I already knew, he's not the sort of bloke to sell someone a dodgy car.

It's one of those things, that sadly means there is always a risk involved when buying a second hand car. Someone could own the car from new, serviced perfectly, etc etc, but the new owner gets five miles down the road and something might decide to give out with no warning and for some odd reason.

Mick had asked our advice on one issue and he believed it was all sorted and the car was running well. So, no hard feelings between you fellas, lets keep V3M friendly and I'm sure nothing nasty was meant.

Ah yes the rust, I'm still in talks with my solicitor about that one :) he he not really, it's all part and parcel of owning an older car (especially a 300!), and I certainly had no harsh feeling towards Pete for it. And just like the Redline will be, it's all sorted now!

I'm sure Andy made the comment in jest (there was a smiley afterall), but I can understand how you've reacted to it as the implication is still there. I'm sure when he reads this (if he hasnt already) he'll feel bad about how you've taken it, and you can both kiss and make up :)

As an aside, I was looking at the BX Club Forum last night - I'm not a regular poster but it's a good source of info, and it's all been locked up due to so much bitchiness between members!! Can't ever imagine it happening but lets not get to that level!!!!

Haha I doubt there'll be any of that.

Mick knows I was only having a sly poke :D (I hope :? If he didn't realize then I apologize and meant no harm by it)

I have to say I never thought it was due to lack of use. Cars don't just develop running problems by themselves. The fast running I did think was due to the choke sticking on.

When I found out it was a poor idle, I was more worried. And yes I still don't believe its a hole in the manifold. Its far more likely its a large hole in the downpipe and a blown manifold gasket, but I guess I'll find that out when we strip it down in a week or so's time.

As you say there's no guarantee that a car of this age is gonna be perfect, but it is frustrating when you drive it home and discover all these problems.

BTW, Krista, get that part from Volvo, cos it'll need changing anyway when we take off the manifold.

Part number again to bump it up :3465968

I saw that earlier...but I'm guessing Miss Krista is testing the water....if she could get good money, she could buy a car that's working, and to a non spanner monkey, that's the obvious thing to do, if you can.

At the risk of second-guessing, I'd imagine plan A is still to fix the car up. That's how I'd be playing it, anyway.

cheers

Or the VOC over the last couple of weeks... again :(!!! Those lot are special!

Krista, it's your call, what do you want to happen here? You have the parts, and a couple of people have offered up a day to help, I know what I'd take, but I'm biased ;)
