A few qustions

Post by Bob » 22 Oct 2006 05:08 pm

I've just brought a 340 GLE. Its a bag of rust to be honest but it does contain a few bits I would like to transfer to my 34O DL, If I can?

The GLE is a five door and my DL is a three door. Are the electric window bits and pieces useable?

The GLE as a full set of clocks, all six, can I put those in and is it a big job to get everything working?

Is the exhaust system the same on both?

The GLE has leather but being a five door the front seats don't tilt. Can they be "converted"?

Bob.

I think they should be, obviously the windows are a different size, but I think you just replace the winders with the motors... you will end up with holes in your doors though!

The only things that will need plumbing in are the econ and temp guage, both are fairly straightforward, as you just put them into the new one the opposite way to how you removed them from the old one
The temp. sender is in the front of the bay, on a level with the bumper pointing towards the wing on the driver's side

Provided they are the same engine, then yes

Adam did this to a redline interior, so yes, it's possible! he'd be the one to ask though

You got the ebay bargain then ;) I was well tempted, I must admit... even if it was only for parts!

Windows I seem to remember being the same mechanisms, and as for the holes, the plastic winder bearing unscrews then unclips, and the blanking cover is just a push fit.

Dekay's covered the rest of it, but yeah, all the extras can be transfered, it's just the leather that'll take some work. Adam's login is 340GLT if you want to get in touch with him.

Nope, electric windows wont swap in - the 3 door mechanism is different - although the motors and small mech parts are the same.

sureley the only difference is how the mechanisms are run though steve? Doesn't the motor just replaces the winder?

No - if that was the case the motor would sit where the manual window crank is

Is it not even bodgeable?
I thought the motor sat to the side with some gearing going to the same point as the winder?

I cant see how it'd be bodgable - Adam (340GLT) will confirm as he's swapped electric windows into his 3 door. I believe they were from a 3 door 360 though.

EDIT: Although saying that, everythings bodgeable somehow suerly

Mechanisms are totally different!!!! END OF!!!!!
Yeh the covers can be done, if both cars are either a hatch or saloon the back seat will swap straight over, however if its fitting into a 3 door it will leave a gap on the bench, you can just plate this.
The front seats are complicated but if you know how they come apart its not too bad, although i warn you it will take you hours!!!
Any info you want just ask!!

Thank you all! :D

I still have to bring the car home. It would not start so It will have to be a trailer job.

I'm not that concerned to be honest. The GLE is fitted with a set of alloys and the clocks are a bonus. The hatch back struts work as well, no more broom handle!

My only other problem seems to be a standard one. The carb on the DL is not right. Cold start fine but warm start is a right pain. It will be sorted. (It as to be it's MOT time soon).

Bob.
