Not a 300-series, but still a Volvo

Post by Fuse »

And not mine, but I wish it would be...

It's not a 300-series but I think some of you might find this interesting. :)

This one Finnish guy got his 16V Amazon Turbo Finished and got it dynoed for first time..

Lot's of buildup pics and pics of the ready thing

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v245/ ... v%20turbo/

Some info about the engine:

It's a -91 block fitted with B21 crank modified for 86mm stroke. Rods are 162mm Lentz rods, pistons are 96.5mm Wisecos, head is from -90 740 GLT and the head has 4mm larger titanium intake valves and head is ported of course, it flows 274hp N/A so the head would allow +600hp@1bar, cams are stock GLT, compression ratio is 8,8 and turbo is Garret GT35R.

Well he got it dynoed now and first with modest 0.8bar it gave 422hp and 539Nm (397 lbs/ft)

After that, in his own words, he nearly fell on his ass when he saw the line going all the way up to the 495hp and 597Nm (440 lbs/ft) with only 1.2bar of boost...

Sadly they couldn't up the boost more this time because after that run, the prop shaft started to shake and make weird noises, so they couldn't continue the dynoing. He said that after he gets the prop shaft sorted, 500hp is going to be broken.

That thing is going to fly on the strip if he gets some traction.. It weights 1158kg fully equipped, so with 495hp it's already a ~2.4kg/HP..

It went very low 12's with his old 8v setup, nearly high 11's.. And this is primarily built as for a summer street car and for street driving, not for racing. Damn good job, I can't say anything else. I love the stockish look of the engine, all the details etc... :P Just Amazing craftmanship.

I do like the Amazon's and my Dad has a collection of them. That sounds like an awesome project and I think it'll need a pilot not a driver! That engine really fills the engine bay up. In my eyes the stock B18's and B20's look so small! Keep us updated!

Only basic tools were used, welding done with mig, no roster were used for piping etc.
Some may practice 20 years of making exhaust manifold and still it won't be nothing like that art :P

I think that it had dta engine management.

I want that engine - just so I can put LPg on it :P

Seriously is there anyone with over 400BHP 4 cylinder that is willing to pay for LPG conversion. I realy want to prove it can be done. :D
