O RLY Owl!

Post by petefarrell360 »

Well, some of you may or may not know that I have a Tawny Owl! She's 24 years old and sadly hasn't been very well lately, we think because of the sudden cold, she had frost forming on her wings and feathers the other night. My Dad being a tree surgeon found her and her brother in a fallen tree as chicks only a few days old, balls of fluff that hadn't even opened their eyes!

Anyway, I ate my Christmas dinner today with an owl sat on the window ledge behind me! Mrs Ollie particularly enjoyed Chicken Run on the TV last night and seemed to perk up a bit tonight, so hopefully she's getting better now. She's now eating little bits of meat if I feed them to her. She could easily snap my finger with her beak, or her strong feet and claws, but she's very gentle and knows we're trying to help it seems.

Cheers mate! I'm hoping she's over the worst of it. Until now in the last few days she's not even wanted to know about food, but I managed to get her to eat loads tonight.

It'd surprise most people how little there is of an owl, there are just so many feathers and layers making it look bigger! Such clever and laid back animals, nothing really worries her at all.

Mick, she looks good in that picture, more at home and happy. Hopefully she'll be better soon.

Jani, that's one of my Dad's many Amazons or 120 series Volvo's. Similar bulbous bonnet!

:D LOL, good work Mr Foggy! She's getting a bit stronger, as she's managed to fly a little bit. Her balance isn't all there though, as sitting on a perch she's a little unstable.
