Maybe Aymat has gone off on a massive bender, spending all of those subscription fees that we sent to him.

Maybe next year I won't feel so inclined to send a subscription to a webmaster who neglects his site in this way.

He hasn't updated anyone re the donor status for a while. Don't be too hard on the guy, V3m was started as a very very small thing, and this isn't the first time we've had trouble because we have got bigger than anyone ever imagined. As to the co-admin thing, most of us are with you, and I've talked it over with Aymat on several occasions.

He's currently got himself a new job, and is living away from home. I've sent him a text, hopefully we'll be able to sort it pronto.

Heads high guys, 18months ago we lost the forum for a month due to hosting problems, we overcame that, we will do this too.

Thats ok mate, we are all getting p*ssed off by it! I have a fair few things ready to be implemented, but just need Aymat around for a bit to talk it over and check with him. Thing is, these bots are being upgraded daily, the one that started appearing yesterday I can tell would get around my orig mod before I've even tried it, but it's ok, I've got an idea I think will work.

new users sign up as email addresses and add their nickname later?
It would catch the bots in the sme way as your other idea, with the website field, but nobodies going to change their bot to not include a name as most places insist on having one to sign up anyway!

As an aside it's enyertaining to click on some of these links and watch their autodownloaders get confused when they can't find anything on my mac!

Yeah, thats the sort of thing Dave, basically as long as we have something completely different to anyone else (and you've go to admit, you are completely different :P) then the bots would never target us.

I love your idea, I'll look into how easy it would be to implement.

I installed a mod that could work... I was talking with Chris on Msn and the mod he was thinking was already installed by me in the past but not working anymore after weeks, bots are various and intelligent...

Btw I think I will change more things on this board, the donation system will be probably stopped and the contribution paid back because it seems that it gives a little bit too much the right to some people to give unfair and bad criticism for V3M and the future of V3M...

By all means stop the donation system if you wish, and remove the benefits that such status gives, but there is no need to refund my money.
I have no expectations of any 'special' treatment just because I donated to keep this fantastic site going, and I was just about to donate for the second year running. Donating was an honour.

Removing the donor status tags is probably a good idea. I think a co-admin would be a good idea for when you're out of town Aymat, but I know you don't like the idea ;) Sometimes the board needs help, and it isn't fair to rely on just one person to always be around - sometimes life gets in the way!

I agree that the donations should not be returned, but equally it isn't fair to use that as 'leverage'. To be fair, I don't think it was meant to be nasty.

cheers

How far are you talking about going back with the donations? I see no need to re-pay anyone. All that was promised was a tag above our names, and we have that. I don't think anyone is perceived to be better than anyone else because of it. For a start we have no idea how much anyone has donated.

I was thinking it's time to give another donation sometime soon as well...

I wouldn't accept any refund either, my donation was precisely that, and I expected nothing in return.

I was just thinking about giving another donation, as I'm finally recovering from the house move and have a bit of spare cash. I don't expect anything in return - you can take away my little donor tag if you like (if it's still there, I haven't noticed TBH), but I just wanna give a little to help keep the forum going.
