Opening in bell housing?

Hey guys

I have just bought a 87' 360 GLT

theres an opening in my bell housing. I can see the pressure plate from under the car. is this normal?

Is it on the top? If so it should have a sensor in it, thats the crank position sensor, so the renix ingnition knows when to spark.

There should be a rubber cover over the inspection hole. You could get one from a scrappy or use some gaffa tape :lol:

It's a big rubber cover that over the years likes to swell and soften so it won't fit properly anymore, i spent half an hour under the car trying to get it in properly, it would either pop a corner out right at the end, or slowly bulge in the middle and fall out a few seconds later, it's now in with a corner hanging out, i'd just clean it up as much as you can and use tape like Solamanda suggested.
