Rear Wiper and Central Locking

Post by REDDUSTER »

Electrical help for rearwindscreen wiper and central locking.
1. Rear windscreen wiper just stopped overnight. Screen washer works and sharing the same switch is this the motor or wiring? Any known faults so help appreciated.
2. Near side rear door central locking motor has not worked, works manually but are their common faults? Are all three remote motors the same or are they handed?
Thanks as after the restrictor issue I an sure somebody will know these issues.
Dolvo running perfectly now, like a swiss watch.
Cheers Charles :(

rear wiper could be the motor, but its more likely to be a connection. Even though they're on the same switch the wiring goes to different ends of the car as the pump is in the front and the motor is in the rear.

I would check for voltage across the motor. A bit of a favourite for the wiring is the bend in the tailgate. Because its been flexed umpteen times, the wires internally snap and so connection is lost.

Continuity fine and voltage at terminal( 12.07) wiper motor culprit. Remote motor sourced so watch this space.
A couple of other items though, the black guttering trim, any issues with replacement, is it a direct fix so what fixings are their?
Hazard warning switch, the one fitted seems proud of the air vents, sort oof wedged into the space rather than a proper fi, could it be a replacement or has it been grafted in from another Volvo?

The black gutter trim is no longer available from Volvo AFAIK. If you can find a scrapper to remove it from, it needs to be very carefully pulled off and work your way along, I believe I worked from the back of the car to the front very successfully to remove some. It's literally a tight push fit which sort of turns very slighly downwards once in place to grip around the metal gutter.

The hazard switches do sometimes sit proud or come out easily. The outer trim around both vents also is the frame work the switch is held in by, and at this point in the middle is thin and vulnerable if anyone removes the hazard switch with any force, as by now it's probably brittle, and taken some flexing and movement over time. It's a tight push fit from memory if you can find another one and remove it without breaking it! Saying that, there are some built in clips or lugs that go into the outer edges of the vents I think, so you need to carefully lift the trim to allow them to pass and unhook I think. A new or undamaged one should then retain the hazard switch.

Replacement motor fitted, no difference so back to square one. Checked wiring and unearthed a "clump" (unsure what you call a collection of blue cable cut-in connectors) lurking on the cabin side of the tailgate. Me thinks somebody has been here before as I would not imagine this is a standard Volvo fit, so whilst continuity muay be their when tailgate opne, when shut may be a different issue.

Any ideas if I am going down the right path?

When should oil and filter be changed? 3,6 or 10K?

Cheers

i cut a bunch of brown wires under the drivers seat a while ago and the wiper stopped, no washer either. as i remember they are connected with blocky things. might be worth checking these. although my rear wiper wasn't factory fitted (i'm told) so you might not have these.
