340GL 1.7 - Norfolk, England, Needs work but mot'd.

Hi all
Well the propshaft has just gone for the 2nd time and I've had enough!
He has to go!!
340 GL 1.7, 5 door, 57600 miles from new, generally good condition in dark grey with very good condition interior. Engine runs well, good tyres, doors rusty at bottoms, mot to November, tax to end May.
WORK NEEDED - new propshaft! (splines have gone so there is no drive - needs trailering away. Also the radiator has a small hole near the top, have been topping up for a while, may radweld or needs replacing?
So - any offers out there for my poor old Volvo?
I'll take cash as he is or MAY get a prop on so he can drive away....

Where abouts are you in Norfolk? as i may be interested, i have a mate with a trailor so picking it up wouldn't be a problem. Would you want alot for it?. I live in Fakenham.

Sorry my missus has put here foot down and say's we don't have the room, I think one 340 in bits on the drive is more than enough for her!. So unless I can find somewhere else to put it i am going to have to leave it.

ok, pity, it will probably end up at the scrappy at the weekend. Did you ever see this one I wonder as your from Fakenham? F243AEX, dark grey?

Yes i do recognise that number, I thought it might have been my old car that i sold in a mad moment, i would have risked divorce for that one!. I have been working on her, but she won't budge!!!

That would have been a coincidence if it was your car! This one seems to have been around Fakenham area for a long time in its life. Anyway, sorry you can't have it, I have had no other interest and I am undecided as to whether to search out another propshaft or just call it quits and have him weighed in. If you know of anyone in the area with a prop, let me know as I have drawn a blank so far.

If it only needs a prop and the rest of the car is good, keep it going

There are numerous 300s breaking on ebay, a prop is going to cost what... 20 quid maximum??

We're yet to properly establish exactly what causes the prop spline failures, but some cars seem to be very prone to it, and others seem to be ok. Hugh seemed to go through a huge number of props, so perhaps there's something in the technique? I remember Adam saying something about it being really important to hammer the prop all the way forward. Just a thought.

What with all these failures, I should have bought that pile of them I found at that breakers near MJ

Worth about a tenner, if you ask me. Shipping should be ~£13. Telling them you've been referred by the guy who bought a load of Volvo stuff a couple of weeks ago might help...might not!
