I don't know what to do. I managed to fit the prop that i had got hold of for my 1.7 no probs. Then i decided with the car in the air to clean out the arches and the sills. The end result was cleaner arches and sills with mainly bodywork washing off!. It needs two wings and i think two sills. On the drivers side the rear jacking point has collapsed and there is a gap wide enough to get your finger in between the sill and the floor. I hadn't noticed it before because it had been bodged with filler.
My dilemma is what to do next, i either spend out and get it sorted, which i just can't afford at the moment, keep it until i can, or break it and save until i can get hold of a 1.4. I know its the unfashionable 1.7 saloon but it has a leather interior with all the gauges and gadgets.
Has anyone any rough ideas on cost? i would have to get someone to do it for me as i can't weld.
Is it the end?
Is it the end?

Ouch that sounds like a lot of work and expense that you wont get back when you sell it
How much mot do's it have left to run ?
If it were me (and I know its not )
I would run it until the mot expires , save as much money as I can and then find another saloon (why do you want a 1.4 ? )
then I would transfer the leather and other bits to the new car and sell off what you dont want to recover some of your outlay .

It's got mot until july but is sorned at the moment so i would have to tax it. That was my original plan but it seems daft to tax it for a couple of months. A 1.4 would be ideal only really because of the tax. This is not the main family car so if i can save on the tax it makes it sense. Its weird though where i live on the rare occasion you see a 340 you can guarantee it will be a 1.7.

I have decided after a session with my screwdriver that it's got to go. The majority of the drivers side sill is in a pile on my drive. I will be taking bits off so if there is anything people want let me know. It will probably be scrapped in a couple of weeks depending on how quick i can strip it.
