acetone has a higher octane rating that petrol so any gains in fuel consumption would be based on your engine being marginally more powerful.
However, fuels are carefuly blended to comply with numberous specifications so adding acetone in an uncontrolled way can cause detrimental affects upon the fuels behaviour and the chemical reactions and processes of the additives, octane modifying components, detergents, lubricity agents and vapour pressure.
fuel lines are also not testing to withstand acetone
in conclusion, it isnt worth doing!

That's funny as mate, the higher the octane rating, the harder it is to raise it with additives, test on those so called "+10" additives showed that if you started with crappy fuel, say around 90 ron, they might raise it by up to ten points, but if you got decent 98 ron fuel, you'll be lucky to get more than 2 or 3 points out of them.IvanS. wrote:This one won't. It increase octane number by 10 ( eg: 98+10=108 ).
It's similar to additive, and it's added that way.
high octane fuel degrades quickly, starting to lose points over just a few weeks, so if you have a higly tuned car that need high octane fuel, you can use the stuff to keep the rating up, but don't think you are running around on 108 ron fuel

Dont forget octane is not everything. LPG is around 115 but the calorific value is lower. The result is a fuel that gives power very close to normal 98ron petrol.

when you say add points , its normally up by .2 or .3 points , those additives cannot raise the octane so high , do a google search .
ie 98 to 98 .2
since raising the octane level , you have to take into account the original octane level and the new octane rating so to raise the octane to 108 , youd have to add a small quantity of 120 something or a larger amount or 110 .
so , a small bottle of octane booster doesnt really add that much .
when adding toluene or scteone or xylene etc , you have to add one litre for every 4 or normal just to raise to about 106 . once again a small bottle isnt going to do anything at all in respect to raising the octane rating .
toluene is present in normal fuel , so is xylene , which is a constituent of cellulose thinners .
you can raise the octane with thinners , but you dont know how refined it is , what level of other petrol based compounds will be present that might be harmful .
the only way to safely raise the octane to 106-108 is to buy some from shell or esso in 25 litre drums , itll be over a pound a litre tho .
or you can do some research like me .
