Blowing Fuse

Hey guys,

Don't know if anyone can help but here goes...

basically I have a pioneer 4 x 45 watt mosfet system...

it powers two alpine 6x9s and the two original volvo speakers at the front.... I dont know why, but everytime i turn the volume up to say about 24 (max of 30), a fuse in the fuse box blows....

the problem is im running out of these old style fuses, but saying that this shouldnt happen because it never occured in my old citroen...

Do you think its a short circuit somewhere or the system is draining too much power when at a high volume so the fuse blows because the current is too high for it?

try a beefier fuse, or alternitavely source your main power from elsewhere - perhaps the starter motor line?

Agreed, do you know which fuse is blowing?

It's also possible your earth is dodgy, as that could trip a fuse. It's unlikely to be directly related to the volume, as the stereo (mine atleast) draws a pretty level current most of the time.

I wouldn't use a beefier fuse, it'll be a certain amperage for a reason! It will be perfectly capable of running an aftermarket stereo, provided, that is, you are running it from the 12v perm. feed that the OEM stereo ran from.

Yer, I dont think i will change the fuse to a beefier one because it may damage something else because the heater level 3 runs on that same fuse?

maybe the wiring is dodgy from before because why would a fuse that is for heater level 3 be the same one used with the stereo?

there are a few options i see...

I think first thing is to check for any shorts because that will save a lot of time if it is just a short...

Is the HU sounding clean at this level - ie: is it distorting prior to blowing the fuse? If you're on the same feed as Fan speed 3, you ain't gonna blow a fuse with a HU normally, trust me! Almost all fuses are shared, so nothing new there.

A short on an input would blow the fuse instantly, and a short on an output probably wouldn't blow a fuse. Roughly where (eg: xx/40 or 60, depending on age/model) does it start to distort? That ought to clear up what's happening...
