lol i said i was repainting the car :D

erm so how would i stick the strips back on afterwards and get them lined up properly?

Stick them back on using that double sided foamy stuff...I'm sure it's pretty much an industry standard.

Nessy hasn't proven to be much of a dent-magnet since the strips were removed. Ironically, my 360 with the huuuge strips has a big 'door dent' in the NSF door.

Probably not. You can always remove the strips if you want to go for the 'shaved' look, whereas I think most buyers would probably want them in place.

how much you reckon the car would be worth when fully sorted? (not a lot to be done really, just a couple of odd bits and the underside is totally rust-free!)

The very best 360s (on eBay) go for £500+ if listed well enough. Obviously I haven't seen your car, but you should be able to get £3-400 with tax and test if it's clean.

Most of the cars which go for good money tend to be 5drs, bizarrely. Perhaps that's just because there will be more clean 5drs, what with there being more 5drs overall.

£300 is decent money for a 300. Many go for £100 or less, regardless of model & trim level.

Remove the door strips with a plastic blade that you mix body filler with, then carefully remove the rest of the stick with your fingers then G3 and polish the area!!

Those bump strips will never go back on quite as well as from factory.

I had a big scrape in my OS door pro repaired and the bump strip was falling off within months. I've since stuck it back down twice but it's on the way off again. The bodyshop warned me this would probably happen. I'm well tempted to remove all of them because of this - as I'm sure NOS bump strips for a 3dr GLT are literally impossible to find.

Yeah, once off, as Ronnie says, they'll be a pig to get to stick again. It's the same with decals etc, from factory the preparation is spot on, no contamination and the glue strip is probably better quality. The key is to give the sticky stuff something to bond to, rather than a shiny painted surface, something with some grip is required, so keying the surface or rubbing it back slightly helps. It's a bit more difficult with decals or thin stripes and door bump strips, but can be done.

My problem is not the sticky stuff coming off the car, but coming off the bump strip - the double sided foam stuff stay nicely glued to the bodywork.

Maybe I'm just not preping it right. Basically I just made sure it was bone dry - after being sat in my work car park. Maybe I should rub the back of the bump strip down with alcohol or something first?
