I have read up about the 480 1.7 turbo conversion and am heading in that direction. I was wondering what extra parts if any i would need from normal to attach a 1.7 turbo engine from an automatic to the manual 340 tranmission. Would i need a 480 clutch plate.
Cheers.
1.7 turbo conversion.
Is the 480 an auto? If so you need to get hold of (above the normal stuff i.e. sump, bellhousing, loom, some kinda of ECU either programmable or orig 400, manifolds, and some way to convert your 300 fuel lines to higher pressure for the injection) a 400 flywheel, and pressure plate, as well as a 340 friction plate.
The flywheel you need depends on which ECU you are dropping in, if it's programmable then any will do that fits (340, 4x0, laguna, megane, espace, clio, 19, 5), as the trigger pattern can be programmed in, if you are using the stock ECU's, then the flywheel needs to be from a 400 of the correct period, as there are two. Later 400T's with either a red or blue sticker on the ECU need the later (and larger) flywheel, that has a slightly bigger clutch (so also require a different pressure plate). The early orange ECU'd cars (I think there is one pre orange too, but it's on the same flywheel) needs the smaller wheel, again with matching pressure plate.
They should be really common. really... they should!

My 340 have that engine.
Mine engine was from a manual so I don't know the difference to the auto.
If you find a manual you will need to change the inlet manifold, get a lot of air pipes, change all the wiring loom, make the exhaust, fuel pump (mine is running with the existing 340 fuel pipes, but later i'll change that), a lot of time and patience
I do not have to much time, but I thinck that in can be make ina a few days if you work in a row.
I'm going with mine to MoT next week... hope he gets approval
I'm using 440T flywheel and pressure plate, and 340 1.7 clutch.
The ECU's need to me matched with the MAF to..
